About 1nHealth, Inc.
1nHealth is a digital technology company utilizing big data analysis to tap qualified and engaged subjects that others ignore. By analyzing consumer behaviors, instead of channel targeting, we bring subjects who match the inclusion criteria for the clinical study.
Our mission is to advance human health by filling up research studies faster than anyone thought possible, while being great humans to clients, to each other, and to patients around the world.
About the role
1nHealth is seeking a Director of Finance & Accounting to own the company’s end-to-end finance function—planning & analysis, accounting operations, cash management, reporting, and controls. You will report to the CEO and serve as the primary finance leader for the business. In the near term this is a hands-on, build-and-run role (you will be the department), with the opportunity to shape processes, systems, and—over time—hire or leverage partners as scale requires.
To succeed, you bring deep GAAP knowledge, strong FP&A and cash management rigor, and a bias for clarity and action. You are equally comfortable closing the books, building a board-ready forecast, and advising on pricing, margins, and contracts.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and execute all financial tasks and projects for the organization, from monthly close to board reporting.
- Lead the month-end and year-end close; maintain a robust general ledger; prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analyses.
- Own FP&A: annual operating plan, rolling forecasts, scenario modeling, and budget vs. actual performance management.
- Develop and implement plans for budgeting, forecasting, and reporting that deliver timely, decision-useful information to leadership.
- Establish and monitor accounting policies and internal controls to ensure GAAP compliance and audit readiness.
- Coordinate tax and audit activities with external advisors; ensure compliance across relevant jurisdictions.
- Provide clear financial insight and analysis to drive pricing, margins, and operating discipline; partner with go-to-market and delivery leaders on project profitability.
- Oversee systems and tooling (e.g., accounting/ERP, expenses, payroll in partnership with HR) and improve data quality and automation.
- Support contract review for key commercial deals (billing terms, revenue timing, and risk), aligning with revenue-recognition principles.
- Prepare materials for board meetings and investor updates; communicate results, risks, and recommended actions succinctly.
- As scale requires, build and mentor a small finance team and/or manage outside partners to extend capability.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
- 8+ years of progressive experience across accounting and FP&A, including ownership of monthly close and budget/forecast processes.
- Thorough understanding of GAAP and internal controls; experience with audits and tax coordination.
- Demonstrated strength in financial modeling, scenario analysis, and executive communication.
- Meticulous attention to detail with superb organizational skills; ability to set cadence and meet tight deadlines.
- Comfortable operating hands-on in a high-growth, fully remote environment; able to work independently and cross-functionally.
- Proficiency with Excel/Google Sheets and modern finance systems (ERP/accounting, business intelligence, and expense/payables).
- Nice to have: experience in technology-enabled services, project-based revenue, and revenue-recognition concepts.
