About the role
We’re hiring a Manager of Finance & Accounting to own day-to-day accounting while establishing a lightweight FP&A rhythm for planning, forecasting, and decision support. This is a hands-on, department-of-one role reporting to the CEO, with frequent collaboration across GTM, Delivery/Operations, and HR. You’ll lead the monthly close, manage AR/AP and billing, maintain a clean general ledger and cash cadence, produce timely reporting with clear commentary, and stand up scalable controls, processes, and automation. As we grow, you’ll help mature budgeting/forecasting.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the month-end and year-end close: journals, reconciliations (bank/CC/payroll/AR/AP), variance analyses, tie-outs; keep the GL audit-ready
- Own AR/AP and billing: accurate invoicing aligned to contracts, collections and cash application, vendor setup/W-9s, approvals, payment runs, 1099 support
- Maintain revenue hygiene for services: align billing/recognition with agreements and basic revenue-recognition principles; partner with Delivery on project profitability
- Cash management: weekly cash snapshots and 13-week visibility; recommend term improvements for collections and vendors
- FP&A cadence: annual operating plan, rolling forecast updates, budget vs. actuals, and concise leadership/board-ready summaries (status → risk → recommendation)
- Policies, controls, and compliance: document accounting policies/SOPs; maintain internal controls; coordinate tax/audit activities with outside advisors as needed
- Systems and automation: improve data quality and repeatability across accounting/ERP, expense/payables, and reporting; drive templates and workflow automation
- Cross-functional partner: provide clear financial insight on pricing, margins, hiring plans, vendor choices, and roadmap tradeoffs; communicate in plain English
- Scale path: recommend when to augment with external partners or additional hires; mentor future team members on close discipline and operating rhythm
Qualifications
- 6–8+ years in accounting/finance with ownership of monthly close and exposure to budgeting/forecasting (midpoint between accountant and director scope)
- Strong GAAP fundamentals; comfort with services billing, accruals/deferrals, and revenue timing; familiarity with audit/tax coordination
- Proficiency in modern accounting platforms (e.g., QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, Xero) and spreadsheets for reconciliations, models, and variance analysis
- Track record of reliable close cadence, organization, and follow-through in a fully remote environment
- Clear, concise communicator who can explain financial impacts to non-finance partners and drive decisions with data
- Nice to have: experience in technology-enabled services or project-based revenue; business partnering with GTM/Delivery; building lightweight FP&A processes
