About the role

We are hiring an Accountant to own day-to-day accounting and keep our books accurate, timely, and audit-ready. This is a hands-on, department-of-one role reporting directly to the CEO. You will run the monthly close, manage AR/AP and billing, reconcile accounts, support cash forecasting, and produce clean reports that leadership can trust. As we grow, you will help mature our controls, documentation, and automation, and advise on when outside specialists or additional hires are warranted.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Own the monthly close: prepare and post journals; reconcile bank, credit card, payroll, AR/AP, and key balance-sheet accounts; perform variance analyses and tie-outs
  • Manage AR and billing: generate invoices aligned to contracts, track collections, apply cash, and maintain the aging
  • Manage AP and expenses: vendor onboarding and W-9s, coding and approvals, payment runs, corporate cards/expense reports, and 1099 year-end support
  • Maintain a clean general ledger: chart-of-accounts hygiene; accruals/deferrals; prepaid, fixed-asset, and other supporting schedules; documentation of accounting policies and SOPs
  • Coordinate payroll accounting with HR; reconcile payroll journals and benefits invoices; support multi-state considerations as applicable
  • Assist with revenue processes to ensure billing and recognition align to agreements and basic revenue-recognition principles for services
  • Prepare weekly cash snapshots and assist with short-term cash-flow forecasting; recommend improvements to collections and vendor terms
  • Improve processes and automation across systems (e.g., accounting/ERP, expense/payables); drive data quality and repeatable cadence
  • Produce concise monthly reporting for leadership with schedules that tie out and clear commentary on trends, risks, and recommendations

Qualifications

  • 4–6+ years of hands-on accounting or full-charge bookkeeping experience, including ownership of monthly close and reconciliations
  • Solid grasp of GAAP fundamentals and the mechanics of a clean general ledger; familiarity with services billing and revenue timing
  • Proficiency with modern accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, or Xero) and spreadsheets for reconciliations and models
  • High accuracy, organization, and follow-through; able to set and hit a reliable close cadence in a fully remote environment
  • Clear, concise communicator who partners well across teams and can explain accounting impacts to non-finance stakeholders
