About the role

4AG Robotics is excited to welcome a talented Senior Mechanical Designer to join our team in Salmon Arm, BC! Play a key role in developing cutting-edge robotic solutions for the agriculture industry. Position Overview

As a Senior Mechanical Designer, you will get to:   

  • Guide and contribute to the mechanical design and development of robotic systems and components 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize designs to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems 
  • Develop detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using CAD software 
  • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for new designs and concepts 
  • Perform simulations and analysis to validate design performance and reliability 
  • Guide the prototyping and testing of mechanical components and systems  
  • Identify and resolve issues through effective troubleshooting techniques 
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to our co-op students, junior designers and engineers 
  • Ensure designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations and quality requirements 
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives   
  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while working on the design, prototyping, and testing of robotic systems. 
  • Gather and incorporate feedback from team members and stakeholders to refine and enhance mechanical designs throughout the development process. 
  • Assist in project planning and scheduling, ensuring timely completion of tasks related to mechanical design within the broader project timeline. 
  • Evaluate existing products to identify areas for enhancement and optimization, ensuring continuous innovation in our automation systems. 
  • Lead the development of functional prototypes to assess their performance and validate design concepts. 
  • Research existing products to gather insights and generate ideas for enhancing our systems. 
  • Transform high-level requirements into well-defined and efficient subsystem designs. 
  • Create comprehensive product operational and safety procedures, ensuring clarity and adherence to best practices. 
  • Stay informed about the latest advancements in robotics and mechanical engineering, applying new knowledge to improve design processes and outcomes. 
  • You will get to contribute across our business to solve problems and employ creative ideas, putting the full range of your skills and experience into practice. We are committed to mentorship and coaching with our experienced Mechatronics Team. 

 

Who you are. Some combination of the following skills, abilities, experience, and attributes will help you thrive in this role: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or mechatronics engineering 
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in the robotics industry 
  • Proficiency in CAD software such as Onshape, SolidWorks, or similar tools 
  • Strong understanding of mechanical principles, materials science and manufacturing processes.    
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment. 
  • Experience with DFMEA 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail 
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal  
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products such as Teams, Outlook, Word and Excel 
  • Proven track records of successful project delivery from concept to production 
  • Actively seek opportunities for professional growth and skill development, leveraging the work term experience to enhance future contributions to the field of robotics. 
  • Available to Travel Internationally for customer site visits and installations

The pay range for this role is:

95,000 - 120,000 CAD per year (Salmon Arm )
