Mechatronics - Control Systems Co-op Student (May 2026)

About Us

At 4AG Robotics, we’re wired for solving tough problems - and mushroom harvesting with robots is about as tough as it gets. We solve the critical labour shortage for farms by building robots that pick, trim and pack mushrooms.

We are a team of builders that like to move fast and embrace the uncertain process of innovation - because every breakthrough comes with a few mistakes along the way. Our robots are already working on six of the world’s largest mushroom farms - and this is just the beginning.

If you love tech, thrive on innovation, and have a passion for building and bringing it to life in the real world in a commercial space, you’ll find your spot here. Join us and help reshape the future of farming with grit, brains, and a team that actually gets things done.

About The Role

As a member of our mechatronics team, you will contribute in a highly collaborative and cross-functional manner to challenging automation problems as we pivot to the commercialization of a large-scale deployment of robotic systems.

What You Will Work On. During your work term, you will get to work on:

  •  Evaluate existing products to identify areas for enhancement and optimization, ensuring continuous innovation in our automation systems.
  • Support the development of functional prototypes to assess their performance and validate design concepts.
  • Transform high-level requirements into well-defined and efficient subsystem designs.
  • Create comprehensive product operational and safety procedures, ensuring clarity and adherence to best practices.
  • Gather and incorporate feedback from team members and stakeholders to refine and enhance mechanical designs throughout the development process.
  • Assist in project planning and scheduling, ensuring the timely completion of tasks related to mechanical design within the broader project timeline.

Who You Are. Some combination of the following skills, abilities, experience, and attributes will help you thrive in this role:

  •  Are currently studying or have experience in Mechatronics Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Collaboration is core to what we do. You will work closely with engineers, designers, and project managers to ensure seamless integration of mechanical designs with larger projects.
  • Steward a safety mindset and approach to ensure all products adhere to safety regulations and industry standards, prioritizing the well-being of both users and systems.
  • Communicate design concepts, challenges, and solutions with team members.
  • Be solutions-focused and contribute ideas and approaches to continuously improve and innovate our products.
  • Research existing products to gather insights and generate ideas for enhancing our systems.

Where Can You Continue To Grow? During your term, you will apply and develop many of the following skills and abilities further:

  •   Selecting and assembling components to build control systems
  • 2D CAD electrical schematics (AutoCAD)
  • Electronics hardware development, including schematic capture, PCB layout, test automation scripting, soldering, and cable assemblies
  • PLC programming in the Structured Text (ST) programming language
  • Human Machine Interface (HMI) programming
  • Working in a collaborative software environment using Git and GitLab
  • Exposure to design, production, and manufacturing environments
  • Continuous improvement activities within an interdisciplinary team (electrical, mechanical, software, manufacturing, operations)
  • Functional testing of the system and subsystems to prove reliability

What Our Teammates Enjoy. We build robots and deeply appreciate our humans. We move swiftly and expect a lot from each other. We build our work around this.

  • We value our people. We offer competitive compensation, and depending on your experience, this position has a monthly salary range of $4,333 to $5,373 per month
  • We value your time. We support work-life integration that focuses on delivering results, not completing a timesheet. We flex to get the job – and life – done.
  • We recharge with downtime. A start-up can be a busy place. We encourage all our people to take a vacation on top of statutory holidays.
  • We know learning never ends. We support our people in pursuing ongoing development and learning throughout the year.
  • Collaborate, innovate, have fun - a workplace where your ideas matter, your contributions make an impact, and creativity drives everything we do.
  • We support relocation. Moving to a new place for a short time can come at a high financial cost. We offer financial support to our students to help with this. This position is on-site at our location in Salmon Arm, British Columbia.

What We Believe
