About Aalo Atomics
Aalo Atomics is pioneering a new era in clean energy with factory-fabricated microreactors designed to deliver affordable, scalable, and reliable nuclear power. Our mission is to make nuclear energy globally accessible, starting with the Aalo-1, a 10 MWe reactor leveraging cutting-edge safety, modularity, and efficiency. Based in Austin, TX, we’re rapidly growing as we work to deploy the world’s first fleet of advanced microreactors. Join us and help revolutionize energy for a sustainable future.
About the role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Power Engineer to support the design, analysis, and implementation of complex electrical systems for advanced nuclear projects. The ideal candidate is technically proficient and detail-oriented, with experience in medium- and low-voltage distribution systems, power system modeling, instrumentation and controls, and the integration of these systems into multidisciplinary environments.
What you'll do
- Lead the design, analysis, and specification of electrical power systems, including MV/LV distribution, grounding, lightning protection, and backup power infrastructure.
- Perform power system studies, including arc flash, fault current, coordination, and harmonic analysis, using tools such as SKM Power Tools or ETAP.
- Develop and coordinate multidisciplinary design packages, including drawings, procurement specifications, and technical reports, from conceptual design through construction.
- Serve as Design Agent or Engineer of Record, ensuring compliance with NEC, NFPA 70E, NESC, and DOE/NRC requirements.
- Coordinate with I&C team members to proactively communicate power system impacts on control system design and operation.
- Provide construction support, including field troubleshooting, commissioning, and resolution of engineering and design issues.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in at least one U.S. state, with the ability to obtain licensure in Idaho.
- 8+ years of experience in electrical power system design and implementation.
- Proficient in power system software (e.g., SKM, ETAP) and CAD platforms (e.g., AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical).
- Experience with SCADA systems, PLCs, and industrial networking.
- Familiarity with government, nuclear, or large industrial projects, including associated safety and security requirements (e.g., ICD-705, NQA-1, TEMPEST).
- Strong technical communication skills and the ability to lead or coordinate complex projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting design and construction at DOE national labs, DOD installations, or nuclear utilities.
- Background in advanced or modular reactor technologies, including safety-class electrical systems and I&C architecture.
- U.S. Government security clearance, or the ability to obtain one.
