About the role

We are seeking a motivated Junior Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer to join our team. This position offers an excellent opportunity to begin your career in nuclear I&C systems, working alongside experienced engineers in the design and implementation of control systems for nuclear facilities. The successful candidate will assist in various aspects of I&C engineering while developing essential skills in nuclear control systems.

What you'll do

Control Systems Design & Implementation

  • Assist in the design and implementation of instrumentation and control systems
  • Support development of control logic and hardware specifications
  • Help configure and test control loops under supervision
  • Learn and apply nuclear safety standards (IEEE, IEC, NRC & DOE requirements)
  • Participate in system documentation and drawing development

Project Support

  • Support senior engineers in project execution and documentation
  • Assist in coordinating with vendors and internal teams
  • Participate in design reviews and technical meetings
  • Help maintain project documentation and technical files
  • Learn project management fundamentals and best practices

System Testing & Verification

  • Assist in control system testing and validation activities
  • Support factory and site acceptance testing procedures
  • Help develop test documentation and reports
  • Participate in system commissioning activities
  • Learn troubleshooting methodologies and diagnostic techniques

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Learn nuclear QA requirements and procedures
  • Assist in developing test procedures and validation documentation
  • Support compliance activities and documentation
  • Help maintain quality records and documentation
  • Participate in internal audits and inspections as part of the learning process

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Nuclear, or Control Systems Engineering
  • 0-2 years of experience or relevant internships/co-ops
  • Basic knowledge of PLCs and programming concepts
  • Understanding of fundamental control system principles
  • Strong academic background in mathematics and physics
  • Basic knowledge of industrial control systems
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings and specifications
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Preferred

  • Internship or co-op experience in nuclear or industrial control systems
  • Familiarity with nuclear industry standards and regulations
  • Experience with PLC programming software
  • Knowledge of SCADA systems
  • Understanding of basic nuclear plant systems
  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar design software

Physical

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds of equipment and tools
