Director, Cloud Engineering

We’re seeking a strategic and hands-on Director, Cloud Engineering to lead AbsenceSoft’s Infrastructure Engineering, DevOps, and Cloud Operations functions. This role is accountable for the availability, reliability, and security of our platform while driving operational excellence, infrastructure automation, and cost optimization. The ideal candidate is both a visionary leader and a technical expert who can scale infrastructure to meet business growth, mentor high-performing teams, and foster cross-functional alignment with engineering, product, and security leaders.


What you'll do

  • Lead, mentor, and grow high-performing teams of infrastructure and DevOps engineers.
  • Define and execute multi-quarter infrastructure and cloud engineering roadmaps aligned with company strategy.
  • Establish standards for infrastructure, DevOps, and cloud operations, ensuring operational excellence.
  • Oversee platform availability SLAs through proactive monitoring, incident management, and blameless post-mortems.
  • Direct adoption of Infrastructure as Code, ensuring full Terraform implementation across AWS environments.
  • Manage CI/CD architecture and operations, including Jenkins, ECS, and related tooling.
  • Lead AWS cost management and FinOps practices through forecasting, right-sizing, and governance.
  • Partner with Engineering, Product, and Security leadership to align infrastructure investments with company priorities.
  • Maintain SOC2 compliance and audit readiness through secure operational practices.
  • Build self-service infrastructure capabilities for development teams with compliance guardrails.
  • Serve as a player-coach, contributing to complex technical problem solving and maintaining technical credibility.

 What you'll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, or infrastructure engineering.
  • 3+ years in director or senior manager-level leadership roles overseeing technical teams.
  • Proven success managing production infrastructure in high-availability SaaS environments.
  • Deep expertise in AWS, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins required).
  • Experience leading incident management, on-call operations, and platform reliability at scale.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS services, networking, cost optimization, and multi-account strategies.
  • Experience with SOC2 compliance and cloud security best practices.
  • Strong financial acumen for managing infrastructure budgets and optimizing cloud spend.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical topics clearly to executives and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborative leadership style with a focus on operational excellence, resilience, and cross-functional alignment.
  • Hands-on expertise with modern cloud and DevOps practices; familiarity with Kubernetes or multi-cloud environments a plus.
  • Knowledge of AI tools and concepts to enhance infrastructure automation and team efficiency.
