The Role
The Graduation Candidate Retention Advocate is to increase parent and family engagement, conduct home visits to identify attendance barriers, update GC commitment schedules on a weekly basis, create a supportive and coordinated family plan to keep GCs tracked for high school graduation, and provide weekly progress reports on the caseload including parents of all minors, coordinate and lead Title I parent meetings and student engagement sessions. This position may also require rotating evening and weekend hours.


This is a temporary position funded through Title I funds. Employment is contingent upon a yearly categorical allocation and this funding is currently expected to run through July 2026.

Key Responsibilities

Family & Student Engagement

  • Arrange and lead coordinated meetings with families and GCs each week for those not making satisfactory progress using Edmentum data and LAA retention protocols
  • Conduct home visits to identify attendance barriers and collaborate on family plans to support progress toward graduation
  • Clearly communicate the importance of a high school diploma in a way that inspires hope, motivation, and action
  • Collaborate with the Life Coach to address and eliminate barriers to academic success using Graduation Persistence Index (GPI) results


Community Outreach & Partnerships

  • Access and develop partnerships with community-based organizations to expand referral networks and resources for GCs
  • Represent the academy at local events, including school fairs, community expos, parks, churches, food pantries, and other relevant gatherings
  • Participate in marketing and outreach activities to increase program visibility and impact
  • Perform other responsibilities as needed to support the academy’s mission

 

What We’re Looking For 

Education: Associate degree required, Bachelors preferred
Experience: 1-2 years of relevant experience in educational support, case management, or working with at-risk youth.
Skills: Strong relationship-building, excellent communication, adaptability, and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
Passion: A genuine commitment to supporting students who have disengaged from traditional schooling and a drive to help them succeed.
Technology: Proficiency with learning management systems and educational technology tools.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Bilingual skills (Spanish preferred!)
  • Inspirational presence, reliable leadership, and excellent group and individual rapport-building and communication skills (written and verbal) in a range of relationships and environments
  • Comfortable learning new technology for organizing and voter engagement that is critical to program implementation, training and tracking
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, changing environments with ability to maintain long hours, including irregular times such as nights and weekends
  • Computer and telephone app proficiency; must be able to learn and adapt to various computer systems and platforms
  • Must have dependable, daily access to a vehicle that you can use every day to drive to events and activities in the community is required. Mileage, gas and phone data to be reimbursed.
  • Community Organizing, Election Campaign and Canvassing Experience preferred
