Senior Frontend Developer (Hypergiant)

This role is part of our Hypergiant division, which specializes in mission command interfaces and command-and-control software. Hypergiant builds intuitive, operator-focused tools that give teams clarity, improve coordination, and accelerate decision-making in complex environments.  


We are looking for a Senior Front End Developer to work alongside our balanced agile delivery teams on highly complex DoD projects, specifically the development of command and control (C2) software. Hypergiant with its partners is building an innovative cloud-based command and control system that seamlessly integrates existing capabilities and provides automation that improves efficiency and effectiveness of mission planning and execution. A perfect candidate is able to write high-quality code, integrate with partner capability providers, and help ensure code and product quality. This position will work alongside our development team and specifically with our customers, to gain immediate feedback on software features and rapidly prototype potential solutions. 

Location: This is a hybrid role that involves local travel to secure facilities in Wahiawa, HI, 2-4 days per week


Clearance: This role requires the candidate to possess and maintain an active US DOD S or TS clearance. 

Role & Responsibilities  

  • Engage with operators, perform requirements discovery, and drive user adoption 
  • Triage and resolve technical issues in real time - diagnose and debug issues, when required document and add to backlog 
  • Sit with system operators to get feedback on software and ideate on potential solutions 
  • Push new requirements to development teams and rapidly prototype modifications to React-based web applications 
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of reusable component libraries and shared codebase 
  • Write high-quality code, applying best practices, coding standards, and design patterns 
  • Participate in the entire software development lifecycle, including requirement gathering, design, development, testing, and deployment, using an agile and iterative process 
  • Participate in code reviews and ensure code quality through effective testing strategies 
  • Collaborate with developers, designers, testers, project managers, product managers, and project sponsors 
  • Communicate tasking estimation and progress regularly to a development lead and product owner through appropriate tools 
  • Team with other developers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth 

  

Required Experience 

  • At least 8+ years of professional front end / UI development experience (5+ with a STEM B.S.) including 5+ years of experience with React (other Javascript frameworks are a plus) 
  • Able to develop organized, accessible, and performant apps using JavaScript, TypeScript, advanced CSS, and HTML 
  • Solid understanding of application architecture, and concepts like asynchronous programming, closures, types, and ES6 
  • Familiarity with WebGL based libraries (e.g., ThreeJS, Deck.gl, Mapbox GL JS) 
  • Experience with Tailwind CSS or other utility-first CSS frameworks 
  • Proficient with version control systems (e.g., Git) and effective collaborative development workflows  
  • Experience managing robust build & test tools and implementing workflow automations (e.g., Jest, Rollup, Webpack, Babel) 
  • Design-minded attention to detail in user interface and user experience implementation  
  • Must be a US Citizen and possess an active US DOD Security Clearance 

  

Preferred Experience 

  • Experience in managing, mentoring & coaching development teams in an Agile environment (e.g., leading scrum and agile project management tools & ceremonies) 
  • Experience working in a secure facility or directly with mission operators 
  • Experience with mobile software development or (e.g., Android Team Awareness Kit – ATAK) 
  • Familiarity with US Army fires control or airspace deconfliction systems and processes 
  • Experience auditing third party dependencies in React ecosystem 
  • A portfolio of past projects with code samples or GitHub links 
  • Geospatial information system (GIS) experience 
  • Penchant for learning new technologies, balanced with strong pragmatic thinking 
  • Experience with state management libraries like Redux or React Context API 
  • Preferred experience working with Next.js or similar SSR technologies to build performant web applications 
  • Ability to travel as needed 


Clearance Requirements: 

Some positions will require access to U.S. National Security information.  Positions that require this access will be required to receive and maintain a National Security personnel clearance (PCL).  To qualify for this position, the candidate must be a US Citizen and either currently possess this National Security clearance eligibility or be able to complete the investigation application process with a favorable determination and maintain that eligibility throughout their employment. The pay range for this role is:

119,240 - 160,650 USD per year (Hybrid (Wahiawa, Hawaii, US))
