Model-Based Systems Engineer (Highbury Defense Group)

Model Based System Engineer

Full time

This position is hybrid located in San Diego, CA and typically requires, on-site work of 3 days per week (Tues/Wed/Thur).  


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain system architecture models using SysML and MBSE tools (e.g., Cameo/MagicDraw, Rhapsody, Enterprise Architect)
  • Facilitate the development of Black Box and White Box models in accordance with DoD and NAVWAR standards
  • Work closely with program engineering teams to develop questionnaires to identify what data is available for each program that can feed into a model, then help match programs with the appropriate MBSE automation tool(s) and enter data into the appropriate MBSE tool.
  • Integrate MBSE approaches with traditional systems engineering practices and digital engineering frameworks
  • Translate stakeholder requirements into system models and technical specifications
  • Participate in or lead technical reviews, model-based design efforts, and system verification/validation planning
  • Collaborate with software, hardware, and integration teams to align models with implementation and testing
  • Support DoD acquisition documentation and milestone reviews (e.g., SRR, PDR, CDR)
  • Ensure models comply with DoD standards (e.g., DoDAF, UAF, MIL-STD-881, NIST 800-160 Vol 1/2)
  • Prepare technical documentation and present modeling results to stakeholders, including government clients
  • Maintain configuration control of models and support versioning and reuse strategies



 Required Qualifications

  • Currently holds an active U.S. national security clearance or be able to receive and maintain one. To learn more about the security clearance process please access this link. 
  • 5+ years of experience in systems engineering with at least 2 years in MBSE roles.
  • Proficiency in MBSE tools such as Cameo/MagicDraw, Rhapsody, or Enterprise Architect.
  • Experience with Black Box and White Box modeling and development.
  • Experience with SysML and formal modeling techniques including Black and White Box Models.
  • Familiarity with DoD systems lifecycle (DoDI 5000.02, JCIDS, etc.) and C4I engineering processes.
  • Experience supporting DoD programs (Army, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, or OSD).
  • Active Secret clearance required.
  • Bachelor's in systems engineering, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

 

Clearance Requirements 

Some positions will require access to U.S. National Security information.  Positions that require this access will be required to receive and maintain a U.S. government personnel security clearance (PCL).  In order to qualify for this position, the candidate must be a US Citizen and either currently possess this National Security eligibility or be able to complete the investigation application process with a favorable determination and maintain that eligibility throughout their employment. Pay Scales & Benefits 

The pay range for this role is: $120,000-159,000. The listed pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this position for the location for which it has been posted and is not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Other compensation considerations may include, but are not limited to, job responsibilities, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, or other applicable factors.
