Position Description

Advanced Energy United (United) is currently seeking a Policy Principal to join our Decisionmaker Education and Engagement team (DMEE) in the Central United States (Midwest and Texas).
 
The DMEE team assists state regulators, state energy office officials, and candidates for governor to better understand advanced energy products, services, and business models. Through National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) and National Association of State Energy (NASEO) engagement, business roundtables, and educational forums, United educates candidates, commissioners, energy office officials, and staff members about the benefits advanced energy technologies and services can provide to customers and helps to solve the challenges in obtaining these benefits. 
 
The Policy Principal will be responsible for strategizing, implementing, and managing workstreams dedicated to educating decision makers and engaging other key stakeholders on topics critical to advanced energy.
 
The ideal candidate has exceptional project management, communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills. Candidates should also possess an interest in—and working knowledge of—state and regional energy policy issues. The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, comfortable with ambiguity, and flexible. Candidates will need to have the ability to travel up to 15% of the time to meet with key stakeholders

Responsibilities 

  • Support the DMEE team in developing and executing educational programming for decision-makers and other key stakeholders
  • Conduct in-depth research on advanced energy technologies, services, and business models; regional or state-specific policies and regulatory frameworks to inform educational programming
  • Lead virtual and in-person events with decision-makers and/or other key stakeholder audiences; present content and/or facilitate group discussions on technical and nuanced energy topics
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including decision-makers, technical experts, thought leaders, and advocates
  • Build, organize and manage project management tools and systems

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; Master’s Degree is a plus
  • 3-6 years of professional experience, with at least some of that experience in policy analysis, policy advocacy, and/or education
  • Experience in the advanced energy industry or clean energy advocacy community especially in the region is a plus
  • Understanding of and experience with energy equity issues is a plus
  • Independent self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit; candidates must be very comfortable working with colleagues in a remote environment, learning new information to deliver content, managing their own calendar, and delivering on high expectations
  • Strong interpersonal skills required; candidates must be able to successfully develop and maintain productive relationships with decision-makers and other stakeholders with diverse interests, backgrounds, and identities
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, required—inclusive of public speaking, presentation, and facilitation
  • Entrepreneurial sensibility comfortable with high levels of ambiguity and fluidity
  • Willingness to travel as needed up to 15%

Salary: Starting at $70,000
