Job Description


We are seeking a strategic and experienced Director of Concepting and Estimating to lead our efforts in designing and pricing complex material handling systems within the parcel and postal sector. This role will oversee a high-performing team of A-players responsible for concept development, cost estimation, and design validation for major clients.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Concepting and Estimating team, including goal setting, performance reviews, career development, and resource allocation.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop high-performing engineering teams, fostering collaboration and professional growth.
  • Oversee the development of accurate and competitive cost estimates for large-scale material handling systems.
  • Drive the creation and refinement of system layouts and pricing strategies.
  • Establish the department’s process flows and KPIs to ensure consistency and quality across all estimates and design documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Sales, Engineering, and Project Management to support project kickoffs and execution.
  • Maintain strong customer relationships and act as a key point of contact during project development and execution.
  • Implement and manage training programs for new and existing team members focused on best practices, documentation control, and pricing accuracy.
  • Lead design and pricing reviews with executive leadership, providing strategic recommendations and technical backup.
  • Support change management and dispute resolution through detailed estimating and design analysis.
  • Present updates and project statuses to executive leadership and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in material handling systems, with a strong focus on parcel/postal sectors.
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership and supervisory experience of an estimating team.
  • Proven leadership experience managing technical teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and familiarity with design tools such as AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems including conveyors, sorters, AS/RS, and ergonomic design principles.
  • Excellent communication, technical writing, and customer interfacing skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with changing priorities.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical controls related to material handling systems.
  • Ability to travel to job sites and attend customer meetings.
  • Proficient in project management, budgeting, and financial analysis.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with all major parcel clients such as UPS, FedEx, USPS, DHL, and Amazon.
  • PMP Certification
  • Simulation experience
  • Familiarity with electrical and software systems related to mechanical applications (e.g., Siemens, Allen Bradley, PLCs).
