Job Summary 

 

The Cloud Communications Engineer is a hands-on role responsible for supporting day-to-day operations across Microsoft Exchange Online and Microsoft 365 collaboration services. This role focuses on operational execution, mail flow management, messaging reliability, and supporting collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Teams to ensure consistent and effective communication across the organization. 

 

The Cloud Communications Engineer includes administering Exchange Online, managing mail flow and message hygiene, supporting mailbox and group-related functionality, and assisting with collaboration platform requests. The Cloud Communications Engineer works closely with Cloud Operations (Identity) and Cloud Engineering teams to ensure alignment with access models, standards, and overall platform design. 

 

The Cloud Communications Engineer is focused on operational excellence, process consistency, and continuous improvement of messaging and collaboration workflows. 

 

Key areas of responsibility include Exchange Online administration (mail flow, transport rules, anti-spam policies, and message tracing), mailbox and shared mailbox management, Microsoft Teams and collaboration platform support, and operational support within Microsoft 365 environments. The role also includes cross-tenant collaboration and identity management, including support for Microsoft Entra Multi-Tenant Organization (MTO) configurations, cross-tenant user lifecycle management, and the design and delivery of entitlement management solutions such as access packages to enable secure, governed access across organizational boundaries. 

 

The Cloud Communications Engineer receives general direction on day-to-day work and guidance on new initiatives. This role is expected to manage assigned responsibilities independently, follow established standards, and collaborate with engineering and operations teams to support ongoing messaging and collaboration needs. 

 

Essential Functions 

  • Own and manage Exchange Online, including mail flow, transport rules, anti-spam policies, and message tracing 
  • Administer mailboxes, shared mailboxes, distribution groups, and Microsoft 365 groups 
  • Troubleshoot and resolve email delivery and messaging issues across the organization 
  • Manage Microsoft Teams environments, including team and channel provisioning, permissions, and lifecycle support 
  • Support collaboration workflows leveraging Microsoft 365 Groups and Teams, in coordination with Identity and Access Management 
  • Support cross-tenant collaboration capabilities, including configuration and operational support for Microsoft Entra Multi-Tenant Organization (MTO) user access and synchronization 
  • Assist with cross-tenant user lifecycle management, ensuring proper alignment of identities, permissions, and collaboration access between organizations 
  • Implement and support Microsoft Entra Entitlement Management, including the creation and delivery of Access Packages for governed resource access 
  • Collaborate with Cloud Operations (Identity) to ensure proper access, group membership, and user alignment across systems and tenants 
  • Handle Tier 2/3 support requests related to messaging, collaboration platforms, and cross-tenant collaboration scenarios 
  • Maintain operational standards, governance policies, and documentation for messaging and collaboration platforms 
  • Support governance and standardization of messaging and collaboration platforms, ensuring consistency, security, and scalability across tenants 

 

Position Requirements 

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Exchange Online, including mail flow, transport rules, anti-spam policies, and message tracing 
  • Experience managing mailboxes, shared mailboxes, distribution groups, and messaging-related permissions 
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Teams administration, including team and channel management, permissions, and collaboration workflows 
  • Experience with Microsoft Entra cross-tenant collaboration, Multi-Tenant Organization (MTO) user management, and Entitlement Management (Access Packages) 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 groups and how they function across Exchange Online and Teams 
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), including user and group relationships as they relate to messaging and collaboration 
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve messaging and collaboration issues, including mail delivery failures, access issues, and Teams-related problems 
  • Experience with email security concepts such as allow/block lists, spam filtering, and message hygiene policies 
  • Ability to support and maintain collaboration environments while following established standards and governance practices 
  • Ability to follow defined architectures and work within established cloud and identity frameworks 
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills with a focus on messaging and collaboration platforms 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical users regarding messaging and collaboration issues 
  • Ability to collaborate with Cloud Operations (Identity) and Cloud Engineering teams to resolve cross-platform issues 
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple requests in a ticket-driven environment 
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn and expand into broader Microsoft 365 collaboration services over time 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail 

 

Travel / Relocation Requirements 

  • Up to 5%, this may include travel to any or all 50 US states  
  • Travel is defined as physically leaving home on behalf of business activities including but not limited to client sites, meetings with other employees, meeting for business development purposes, running errands on behalf of the business, attending industry conferences, etc. 

 

Education / Experience Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related discipline   

PLUS  

  • 5 years of experience in Information Technology
