Business Development Representative (BDR), Public Sector

About AidKit

AidKit’s cutting-edge technology transforms complex cash assistance programs into streamlined, secure, and dignified experiences. By seamlessly connecting applicants to vital resources, we're making aid radically accessible for diverse populations—including unhoused and unbanked. From simplifying complex benefits modernization projects for state agencies to standing up efficient disaster relief programs, AidKit helps it’s partners deliver aid with dignity.

We were our own first customer—AidKit started as a nonprofit initiative born from the need to support systematically excluded workers during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, AidKit provides the technology backbone for some of the nation's most innovative public safety net programs, having distributed hundreds of millions of dollars to people in need.

As we continue to grow rapidly, the opportunity for impact is immense. Apply to join our team if you're seeking meaningful work in an environment that trusts your judgment and values your unique contributions.

What if your sales outreach could help communities access critical aid and benefits? At AidKit, business development is about creating opportunities that change lives and restore trust in essential systems. If you're passionate about social impact and thrive at the front lines of outreach, we'd love to meet you.

We’re hiring our first BDR focused on the Public Sector—a sharp, mission-driven professional who knows how to find and engage the right people. You'll be responsible for generating and qualifying leads, initiating conversations with government decision-makers, and teeing up opportunities for our Partnerships team. This role is ideal for someone who excels at research, personalized outreach, and connecting the dots between real-world challenges and the solutions AidKit can offer.

You’ll enter with clear target audiences, a strong value proposition, and a team ready to support you. But this is a build-as-you-go role—you’ll help shape our prospecting strategy and systems alongside the Partnerships and Marketing teams.

What You’ll Do

  • Prospect Public Sector Leads: Research and identify relevant government agencies and key stakeholders who align with AidKit’s Ideal Customer Profile (ICP).
  • Cold Outreach: Run email, phone, and LinkedIn outreach campaigns to engage prospects and spark meaningful conversations.
  • Lead Qualification: Conduct discovery calls to assess fit and needs, capturing context and pain points for effective handoff to Partnerships Directors.
  • Meeting Generation: Set up and coordinate high-quality meetings between qualified prospects and the Partnerships team.
  • CRM Accuracy: Maintain clean and up-to-date records in HubSpot, tracking lead status, outreach history, and next steps.
  • Market Intelligence: Track public sector trends, ICP sentiment, and response to outreach, contributing to pipeline development and strategic outreach.
  • Event Follow-Up: Support outbound and follow-up efforts around events and conferences AidKit attends, collaborating with Marketing and Partnerships.

About You

We’re looking for someone with the right mix of skills, mindset, and mission alignment. Even if you don’t check every box, we encourage you to apply if the role excites you.

Core Skills and Experiences:

  • Proven experience in a business development, inside sales, or outreach role—ideally focused on B2G or mission-aligned sales.
  • Skilled in identifying decision-makers and tailoring outreach to public sector or enterprise personas.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to lead with empathy and clarity.
  • Comfortable making cold calls and crafting targeted outreach emails and sequences.
  • Familiar with using CRM tools like HubSpot or Salesforce.
  • Bonus if you have experience working in or selling to state or local government agencies.
  • Bonus if you've worked in a startup or fast-moving environment.

Mindset and Mission Alignment:

  • You’re a connector who thrives on finding the right person and starting valuable conversations.
  • You’re resilient—you don’t get discouraged by unanswered emails or unreturned calls.
  • You’re highly organized, self-motivated, and driven to meet goals.
  • You care deeply about creating systems that work for everyone and want to apply your talents to something meaningful.
