About the role
The Assistant Controller role reports to the Director of Finance & Accounting.
The Assistant Controller will conduct and oversee general ledger activities and certain functional areas of AIQ accounting. You will directly manage the work of a Staff Accountant, accounts payable and payroll. This role is expected to collaborate closely across the department to direct the month end reporting calendar and checklist, owning the timely preparation of draft financial statements.
The Assistant Controller partners with the Director of Finance & Accounting to ensure compliance with technical accounting and tax matters. You will be a key participant in the annual audit and income tax engagements. The Assistant Controller will participate in the implementation of efficient accounting processes, scalable systems, development of internal controls and completion of special projects.
What you'll do
- Record complex accounting entries and prepare related reconciliations such as revenue recognition, capitalized software development, commission calculations, loan amortization, and income tax accruals
- Direct the monthly close cycle ensuring proper cutoff and completeness.
- Prepare draft financial statements and variance review to ensure expenses are coded properly regarding all GL account segments
- Prepare and/or oversee the completion of reconciliations for the bank and various payment processing accounts. Monitor bank balances and transfer funds to cover weekly requirements.
- Oversee accounts payable, payroll, and all related entries and reconciliations.
- Manage Staff Accountant – optimize task allocation, career pathing, performance management
- Partner with Accounting Supervisor on areas of responsibility, ensuring accuracy of financial reporting in revenue and accounts receivable
- Participate in filing business registrations including those required for payroll
- Compliance with state and local taxes
- Key participant in annual financial audit and tax engagements
- Other statutory reporting as required
- Administrator of financial systems such as Netsuite, QBO, Bill.com, Avalara, Rippling spend management and online banking. Primary owner of all payables systems.
- Monitor and recommend improvements to internal controls
- Continually assess financial systems to meet scaling needs and ensure efficient data processing in high growth environment
Qualifications
- 4+ years of related experience, including a minimum of 2 years in a high-growth and/or SaaS environment.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
- Proven ability to understand technical guidance and complete complex accounting entries and reconciliations
- Successful experience managing the month-end close cycle to timely completion, including preparation of draft financial statements
- Experience in related functional areas including accounts payable, payroll, and high-volume payment processing
- Experience supervising the work of others
- Demonstrated drive for accuracy and attention to detail
- Prior experience with implementing and/or administering ERP and other accounting systems
- Understanding of internal control frameworks
- Analytical approach and problem-solving expertise
- Strong communication skills
- High level of customer service

The pay range for this role is:
110,000 - 125,000 USD per year (Colorado)
