Manufacturing Cost Estimator Job Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Project Analysis: Review and understand project plans drawings, blueprints, specifications, and other related documents.
- Material Estimation: Determine the quantity and type of material required for projects, factoring in waste and other contingencies.
- Labor Estimation: Calculate the amount of labor required to complete the project, based on the complexity, size, and other pertinent details.
- Equipment and Tool Estimation: Determine if special equipment or tools are required and factor these costs into the estimate.
- Subcontractor Coordination: If certain aspects of a project will be outsourced, coordinate with subcontractors and include their quotes in the overall project estimate.
- Software Utilization: Use company software and tools to assist with estimation tasks.
- Proposal Development: Prepare detailed, clear, and accurate proposals for clients, including a breakdown of costs.
- Communication: Collaborate with the sales team, project managers, and other stakeholders. Answer any queries related to estimates and provide clarifications when needed.
- Continuous Learning: Stay updated with industry trends, new materials, processes, and pricing to ensure estimates are current and competitive.
- Risk Analysis: Identify potential risks and challenges of a project and reflect them in the estimate.
- Documentation: Maintain organized and thorough records of all estimation data for future reference or for revisions.
- Negotiation: Assist the sales team during price negotiation by providing breakdowns, alternatives, or justifications for the estimated costs.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Perform other miscellaneous duties as the job requires or as directed by management.
- Help in other departments as needed.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Education: A degree in engineering, manufacturing, business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing estimation or a related field.
- Technical Knowledge: Understanding of metal fabrication processes, materials, tools, and machinery.
- Software Skills: Proficiency in estimation software and familiarity with CAD tools.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to provide accurate and detailed estimates.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex projects and break them down into measurable cost components. Strong math and analytical aptitude
- Communication Skills: Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
- Previous experience working in ISO 9001 or AS9100-certified environments.
- Time Management: Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines efficiently.
WORKING:
- Office environment, with occasional visits to the shop floor.
