Summary:
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and strategic direction of the purchasing department. This role involves managing vendor relationships, optimizing procurement strategies, and collaborating cross-functionally with operations, engineering, quality, and finance to meet company objectives. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with experience in ERP/MRP systems and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and support the daily activities of the purchasing team.
- Develop and implement procurement strategies for inventory and non-inventory items.
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to drive performance and cost efficiency.
- Investigate and onboard new supply sources aligned with company standards.
- Analyze inventory levels and adjust procurement plans to support organizational goals.
- Maintain and update ERP system data including min/max levels, safety stock, and reorder points.
- Identify and close process gaps within the supply chain to strengthen performance.
- Expedite materials and supplies as needed to ensure uninterrupted operations.
- Resolve discrepancies related to order fulfillment, damaged goods, or replacements.
- Issue and manage purchase orders from creation to closure.
- Obtain and compare vendor quotations and evaluate best options.
- Ensure suppliers meet required performance and quality standards.
- Comply with internal procedures and quality system requirements related to purchasing.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
- 3–5 years of relevant purchasing experience; prior leadership/management experience required.
- Proficient in ERP/MRP systems; Epicor experience is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of procurement best practices and supply chain management.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated ability in critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving.
- Proven track record of leading teams and improving operational outcomes.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Work Environment:
This position is based in a warehouse setting where teamwork and efficiency are essential.
Shift:
Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM
