About Albert
Albert helps chemists change the world by building technology that understands how they work. As chemists ourselves, we know what it’s like when software doesn’t work the way you do — stuck with systems built by people who never spent a day at the bench. That’s why we created Albert OS, the first AI-native operating system for materials science, designed to remove every obstacle between curiosity and discovery.
About the role
We’re looking for an ambitious and results-driven Regional Director, Engagement & Scientific Architecture to join our growing team. This is a player-coach role: you will lead and develop a team of Engagement Managers and Scientific Architects across EMEA while maintaining a direct individual contributor workload across strategic accounts. You will be expected to model the work — owning customer outcomes, driving deployments, and staying close to the science — while building the team’s capability and delivery quality around you.
What you'll do
Strategy & Delivery
- Own and execute the EMEA post-sale delivery strategy across Engagement Managers and Scientific Architects, ensuring alignment with Albert’s Transform 2.0 outcome-based model and regional customer health objectives.
- Hold regional accountability for customer health metrics, platform adoption, time-to-value, and NPS across the EMEA portfolio, translating data into actionable plans for the team.
- Partner with Pre-Sales, Commercial Operations, and Product to ensure seamless pre-to-post-sale handoffs and that regional insights inform GTM strategy and product direction.
- Define team-level delivery standards, playbooks, and quality controls that enable consistent, repeatable execution of Albert’s Wave deployment model across the region.
Execution & Collaboration
- Lead and develop a blended team of Engagement Managers and Scientific Architects; manage resourcing, workload allocation, and delivery quality across EMEA accounts.
- Maintain a direct individual contributor workload across a defined set of strategic EMEA accounts — personally owning engagement delivery, executive relationships, and value outcomes alongside your management responsibilities.
- Drive consistent execution of Albert’s Wave deployment model, ensuring well-scoped, time-bound delivery cycles across the team and establishing clear performance standards.
- Navigate the cultural and operational diversity of the EMEA region, adapting delivery approaches to meet the expectations of customers across multiple countries and regulatory environments.
- Collaborate with Customer Engineering, Product, and Commercial Operations to resolve escalations, improve delivery tooling, and standardize workflows in Vitally.
- Act as a cross-functional connector between the EMEA delivery team and global functions, ensuring regional priorities are represented and resourced.
Leadership & Impact
- Build a high-performing regional team through deliberate hiring, onboarding, coaching, and career development; create clear growth paths for Engagement Managers and Scientific Architects.
- Develop direct reports’ skills and delivery capabilities deliberately; address talent gaps before they affect customer outcomes and create a performance-oriented team culture.
- Surface regional delivery insights, risks, and customer patterns to internal leadership to influence services packaging, product roadmap, and GTM strategy.
- Establish performance controls and quality standards across the EMEA team; recognized as the functional authority for post-sale delivery in the region.
Qualifications
- Background in chemistry, materials science, or a related R&D discipline; direct bench or applied research experience is strongly preferred.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in post-sale, professional services, or scientific delivery roles; comfort operating as both a practitioner and a people leader is essential, and prior formal management experience is preferred but not required.
- Proven ability to own customer outcomes across a regional portfolio, including retention, platform adoption, and expansion metrics.
- Experience working within outcome-based or transformation-oriented delivery models, with a track record of managing complex, cross-functional projects to successful completion; PMP certification or equivalent project management qualification is preferred but not required.
- Experience leading or supporting organizational change management efforts, including stakeholder engagement, adoption planning, and resistance management; Prosci, CCMP, or equivalent change management certification is preferred but not required.
- Fluency in both German and English is required; additional European languages are an advantage.
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively across the cultural and business landscape of the EMEA region.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to engage credibly with both scientific and executive stakeholders.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across teams and time zones.
- Experience with AI-native platforms, AI-assisted workflows, or deploying AI-related solutions in a scientific or enterprise R&D context is a plus.
Key competencies:
- Leadership: Builds high-performing teams through deliberate coaching, development, and accountability; drives cross-functional initiatives to completion with clear ownership at every level.
- Systems Thinking: Visualizes and designs how delivery processes, customer journeys, and scientific workflows connect to drive measurable business outcomes.
- Empathy: Strong active listening across multiple personas and cultures; translates customer and team needs into actionable priorities, with particular sensitivity to the cultural diversity of the EMEA region.
- Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across functions and time zones; builds coordination mechanisms that reduce friction as the organization scales.
- Grit: Self-starter and persistent problem solver; relentless in pursuit of progress even in ambiguous or fast-changing environments.
- Adaptability: Comfortable in dynamic, evolving customer and company environments; adjusts approach without losing focus on outcomes.
Why Albert?
We have a huge impact. Albert is a growing team with a global reach. We’re building toward a future where discovery feels like exploration, not administration. Where chemists can pursue their most ambitious ideas without friction.
We love our global team. Albert’s home-base is in the California Bay Area, but we have multiple offices and employees sprinkled around the globe: India, Germany and Japan. In fact, over 50% of our employees work outside of California! An international remote culture is in our DNA.
We care about you. Albert works hard to create a positive environment for our employees, and we think your life outside of work is important too. We work hard and we play hard.
We value diversity. Growing and maintaining our inclusive and diverse team matters to us. We are committed to being a company where our employees feel comfortable bringing their authentic selves to work and have the ability to be successful — every day.
