Prevention Coordinator -
Reports to Prevention Manager
Job Summary
The Prevention Coordinator supports community-based efforts aimed at delaying the onset of substance use in youth through the utilization of Alliance identified prevention strategies within local schools and communities to address environmental factors that can contribute to substance misuse.
Key Responsibilities
- Prevention program implementation (ReNEWed Jr, ReNEWed, Girls Empowered, Thrive, Nourished, substance specific and all other programs as needed)
- Second Lead Facilitator on Positive Community Norms youth training including sharing evaluative components with leadership
- Assist with listening sessions/focus groups
- Assist with implementation of Youth Dialogue Days and PhotoVoice projects
- Implementation of Prime for Life and/or Keep Them Safe, Keep Them Healthy youth programs
- Specific focus on assistance with Prescription Drug and Marijuana Prevention initiatives
- Disseminate substance use information at health and public fairs, school open houses and other community events as requested.
Additionally, everyone on the Prevention Team assists with event and programming requirements, (including but not limited too):
- Supporting community wide events
- Assist and work collaboratively with the Alliance team in the planning and development of events and programs
- Ability to work in a mid-level noise collaborative environment.
- Ability to maintain normal office hours at the Alliance site as well as hours based on program need including some evenings and weekends.
- All other duties as assigned are within the scope of this position that contributes to the advancement of mission of the Alliance. Job duties may vary based on discipline and population served. All other duties that are general in nature and are related to the scope and practice for this position.

Job Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Experience: 1-3 years of related experience
- Must be eligible for a registered development plan and be timely in its implementation upon hire as a Certified Prevention Specialist through MCBAP (CPC or CPS) or CHES
- Must have a valid Michigan Driver’s License, current automobile insurance and use of vehicle during working hours
Skills
- Understanding of youth substance misuse issues
- Planning, implementation and coordination of substance abuse prevention services
- Experience working with youth and keeping them engaged
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Self-motivated and organized
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Computer knowledge, especially Microsoft applications. Google Suite and Canva
- Cultural Competence and experience working with a diverse group of individuals
- Ability to attend meetings and represent the organization/coalition
- Interest and innovation in the “big picture” of public health and behavioral health issues
- Ability to present self in a courteous, tactful, and professional manner
- Considerate, punctual, and attentive to details

Physical Demands
- Must be able to enter and retrieve data using computer systems, systems applications, and other office equipment.
