the job:
As a Contract - Associate Packaging Designer for Amika, you will play a crucial role in developing innovative and visually captivating packaging designs for the brand's haircare and styling products. You will collaborate with the Associate Art Director, Packaging to create packaging solutions that reflect the brand's unique identity, engage target consumers, and contribute to the overall brand experience. This role requires strong design skills, attention to detail, and the ability to translate brand values into compelling packaging designs.
rate: $45 per hour
duration: 6 months
location: brooklyn, ny (hybrid role)
what you'll do:
- Develop creative concepts for packaging designs that align with Amika's brand identity, values, and target audience.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including marketing, product development, and production to ensure seamless execution of packaging designs.
- Create visually stunning packaging designs that effectively communicate the essence, benefits, and uniqueness of Amika products.
- Incorporate Amika's signature color palette, typography, and visual elements into packaging designs to maintain brand consistency.
- Confirm dielines are accurate with printer, and preparing mechanical artwork, ensuring all elements are sized correctly and laid out accurately, within the printer’s specifications
- Check and resizing images to ensure clear print-quality, thoroughly reviewing designs for errors in typography, layout, and image quality, checking for bleed and trim marks, and ensuring files are print-ready
- Preparing mechanical files for international markets, familiarity with international packaging standards (APAC, EU, EMEA, etc)
- Present design concepts to stakeholders, incorporating feedback and revising meet the brand's expectations.
- Manage multiple packaging design projects concurrently, ensuring adherence to timelines and delivering high-quality designs on schedule.
- Coordinate with external vendors, printers, and manufacturers to oversee the production process and ensure accurate implementation of designs.
- Maintain organized design files, assets, and documentation for efficient retrieval and future reference.
- Explore new design trends, techniques, and materials to enhance the overall packaging aesthetics and appeal.
- Stay updated on the latest packaging design trends within the beauty industry, specifically in haircare and styling products.
must haves:
- Proven experience as a packaging designer, preferably with a focus on beauty, haircare, or personal care products.
- Strong portfolio showcasing innovative packaging designs that align with brand identities and appeal to target consumers.
- Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and other relevant tools.
- Knowledge of packaging design principles, materials, printing techniques, and production processes in the beauty industry.
- Strong attention to detail, and the ability to identify and correct even minor design inconsistencies
- Knowledge of best practices in beauty packaging design including understanding of print production processes, file formats, and color management
- Excellent communication and presentation skills to effectively convey design concepts and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently while maintaining attention to detail.
