Summary:


Anaconda is seeking an exceptional Software Engineer to contribute to technical innovation in the Jupyter OSS ecosystem. This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned Jupyter community member to shape the future of interactive computing for millions of users worldwide while working within a company that has the resources and commitment to make ambitious visions reality. You'll continue your ecosystem contributor role while having the backing of Anaconda's commercial success to drive major initiatives forward.


What You'll Do:
  • Support the future direction and architecture of Jupyter ecosystem projects
  • Contribute to design and implementation of major features in Jupyter core projects
  • Leverage your deep community relationships to strengthen Anaconda's position in the Jupyter ecosystem
  • Mentor community contributors and help grow the next generation of Jupyter leaders
  • Represent Anaconda's technical vision at conferences, community meetings, and standards discussions
  • Work closely with product teams to align OSS development with commercial objectives while maintaining community trust
  • Influence Anaconda's overall OSS strategy through your expertise and industry relationships
  • Continue your broader Jupyter ecosystem leadership role within Anaconda's context
What You Need:
  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering roles
  • Hands-on experience with Jupyter notebooks, JupyterLab, or Jupyter ecosystem
  • Expertise in Python and modern software development practices
  • Strong experience with web technologies (JavaScript/TypeScript, React, or similar frameworks)
  • Experience with OSS development, including community engagement and collaboration
  • Excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Understanding of data science workflows and tools

What Will Make You Stand Out:
  • Current or former maintainer/core contributor to Jupyter or related projects
  • Experience serving on project steering committees or technical governance bodies
  • Track record of successfully balancing commercial product needs with OSS community interests
  • Experience contributing to large-scale architectural initiatives in complex distributed systems
  • Understanding of the broader Python data science ecosystem and its interdependencies
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships across academic, commercial, and OSS communities

The base salary range for this role is $154,000 - $200,000 for candidates in New York City and San Francisco, and $115,500 - $170,000 for other US-based team members, along with annual bonus potential, equity participation, and benefits.


Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual compensation is determined by various factors, including work location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter will provide more specific details on the salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
