Overview


Anchor Home is seeking a dependable, compassionate, and community-minded Direct Support Professional / Activities Assistant to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This role is highly mobile and community-based — candidates must be comfortable spending the majority of their time driving and supporting individuals out in the community, rather than in an office or facility.

A major focus of this position is to help clients build relationships, engage in meaningful community experiences, and become fully integrated into the communities where they live. This includes helping clients access recreation, volunteering, education, employment, and other personalized interests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on support with daily community integration and life skills activities.
  • Drive individuals to various community locations, appointments, and activities — reliable and safe transportation is essential to this role.
  • Identify and coordinate opportunities that promote social connection and community inclusion based on individual interests.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local organizations, businesses, and community partners to create inclusive experiences.
  • Follow the Plan of Care developed by the Delegating Nurse and provide feedback on client progress.
  • Prioritize and respond to client needs with professionalism and empathy.
  • Ensure client safety and well-being in all settings.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of care and community engagement activities.
  • Listen actively to client preferences and advocate for their inclusion in community life.

Shift

  • Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or College Degree.
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation required (this is a driving-intensive position).
  • First Aid and CPR Certification required
  • Certified Medication Technician (CMT) license preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with a passion for supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Self-starter who is comfortable working independently in the field.
  • Flexibility, patience, and a strong commitment to community inclusion.

The pay range for this role is:

17.50 - 17.50 USD per hour (White Marsh, Maryland)
