The April Parker Foundation (APF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit rooted in Long Beach and focused on practical solutions that improve daily life for underserved residents. Our programs blend culturally responsive services, hands‑on education, and targeted resources—ranging from health‑equity initiatives to small‑business support—to help individuals, families, and neighborhoods thrive. Position Summary
Futures First is APF’s paid internship program, offered in partnership with LBWIN, that places you on the front lines of community impact for 10–12 weeks. Interns join active projects—designing youth workshops, coordinating health campaigns, producing digital outreach, or advancing tech infrastructure—while receiving one‑to‑one mentoring and weekly skill‑building sessions. The experience is designed to sharpen your professional toolkit and provide a clear view of nonprofit career paths. High‑performing interns may be considered for future part‑time or full‑time positions with APF.
Key Responsibilities
General (all tracks)
- Contribute to project planning and execution alongside APF staff.
- Maintain accurate records, timelines, and reports.
- Attend team meetings, trainings, and professional‑development sessions.
- Represent APF professionally at community events and online.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Youth Development Track
- Help design and deliver career‑readiness workshops.
- Support mentorship activities for middle‑ and high‑school students.
Community Wellness & Health Track
- Assist with public‑health outreach and health‑equity events.
- Distribute wellness resources and gather community feedback.
Marketing & Outreach Track
- Draft digital content and manage social‑media calendars.
- Support event promotion and stakeholder communications.
Technology Track
- Provide first‑level IT support and assist with systems maintenance.
- Help develop technology solutions that improve program delivery.
Qualifications
- Interest in community service, public health, technology, social justice, or nonprofit operations.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Reliable organization and time‑management abilities.
- Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast‑paced environment.
- Availability for 12–20 hours per week during the internship term.
- Ability to meet the physical and technical requirements of the role, with or without reasonable accommodation.
