Bookkeeper

Location: Remote
Position Type: Part-Time | Non-Exempt | 20hrs a week


About the role

  • The Bookkeeper will play a critical role in supporting the financial health and sustainability of the April Parker Foundation. This position is responsible for managing day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank and account reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with nonprofit financial policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will bring attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a passion for supporting a mission-driven organization

What you'll do


The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Accounts Payable & Receivable
    • Process vendor invoices, ensure accurate coding, and manage timely payments.
    • Prepare and send invoices, track receivables, and follow up on outstanding balances
  • Banking & Reconciliation
    • Perform regular bank, credit card, and account reconciliations
    • Maintain accurate financial records and ensure alignment with internal controls
  • General Ledger & Reporting
    • Post and reconcile journal entries in accounting software.
    • Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
    • Track restricted and unrestricted funds, grants, and program allocations
  • Budget & Audit Support
    • Assist with budget preparation and provide accurate reporting to department leads
    • Support annual audits by preparing documentation and liaising with auditors
  • Compliance & Internal Controls
    • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards (GAAP) and organizational policies
    • Maintain proper documentation and filing of all financial records
  • Payroll Support (recommended responsibility)
    • Assist with processing payroll and related benefits reporting.
    • Ensure accurate entry of employee timecards, deductions, and reimbursements
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 3–5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience (nonprofit experience strongly preferred), but not required
  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Online, Sage Intacct, or similar)
  • Strong knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and reconciliations
  • Solid understanding of nonprofit fund accounting principles

Required Competencies & Skills

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment

What Success Looks Like in This Role

  • Invoices and payments are processed accurately and on time, with clear documentation.
  • All accounts (bank, credit card, grants) are reconciled on a timely basis each month.
  • Financial reports are accurate, reliable, and delivered to leadership as scheduled.
  • Compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and internal controls is consistently maintained.
  • Department leaders and executives trust financial data to make informed decisions.
  • The Bookkeeper is recognized as a reliable, proactive, and solutions-oriented member of the team

The pay range for this role is:

2,400 - 2,800 USD per month (Remote)
