Location: Remote (Canada - West)


WHO are you:

You are an energetic and self-driven software engineer with significant experience creating software for video and streaming applications. You excel in delivering robust and reliable video pipelines for time-sensitive events and are adept at troubleshooting and mitigating issues at scale.


WHAT is the role: 

As a Video Software Engineer you will work in the Live Operations Team and collaborate with Content Operations to ensure live events run smoothly.

You will be the go-to person for managing all technical aspects of a live stream, before and during an event.

You will build tools to facilitate configuration and operation of live events.

You will work with third-party content sources to ensure video feeds integrate properly with our platform.

Key duties include:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver pipelines, tools and interfaces for managing live events
  • Implementing and guiding software development of tools and interfaces for managing live events
  • Drive technical requirements for onboarding new customer content
  • Create, manage and organize live streaming resources for efficient delivery of multiple live streaming platforms
  • Tier 3 contact for troubleshooting live streaming issues
  • Investigation and analysis of new streaming technology
  • Integrate streaming technology into aPMC platforms

WHAT you need to SUCCEED:

  • 3-5+ years experience in live streaming
  • 5+ years experience developing software in a well-known programming language (python preferred)
  • 3+ years experience with streaming media services
  • Experience evaluating video playback across devices like laptop browsers, connected TVs, mobile phones and tablets
  • Experience with common video tools like ffmpeg
  • Understanding of video encoding ladders, codecs and profiles
  • Understanding of common video protocols such as RTMP, SRT, HLS, DASH
  • Proficient in code versioning tools such as Git
  • BSc in Computer Science or industry experience equivalent 
  • Work schedule: This is a full-time permanent role primarily supporting live sports and events, with a schedule that includes evenings and weekends. Work hours will be adjusted as needed to ensure a balanced schedule, providing flexibility to accommodate event coverage and to maintain work-life balance

Nice-to-have Skills:

  • Experience with AWS Media Services
  • Experience with DevOps tools and procedures for managing streaming resources
  • Experience developing software for Python web frameworks
  • Experience with Ad-insertion technologies
