About the Position
The Director of Development will lead ARC’s fundraising efforts to support its mission, with primary responsibility for achieving financial goals. This role focuses on securing and expanding relationships with individual, corporate, and institutional donors through a variety of methods, including direct cultivation, online campaigns, events, and grant proposals. The Director will work closely with the CEO and senior leadership to drive revenue growth and raise ARC’s visibility within the amyloidosis community.
In addition to overseeing annual, major, and planned giving programs, the Director will focus on building and strengthening donor relationships with community members, patients, their friends, families, foundations and relevant organizations. The individual will also collaborate with the Director of Strategic Partnerships and Business Development to increase corporate and institutional support through grants and other funding initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring a strategic, hands-on approach to donor development and team leadership, ensuring fundraising efforts consistently exceed financial targets and align with ARC’s long-term mission.

Responsibilities
Development Leadership:
- Lead the development and fundraising efforts for ARC by identifying, cultivating, and stewarding a portfolio of individual, corporate, and foundation donors.
- Develop and execute strategies for major gifts, annual campaigns, planned giving, and special initiatives to meet and exceed revenue goals.
- Oversee the creation and execution of fundraising events, from annual campaigns to special donor recognition and stewardship activities.
- Supervise the development team, providing leadership, mentoring, and strategic direction to maximize team outcomes and staff growth.
- Collaborate with the CEO and senior leadership to define and drive ARC’s fundraising priorities and organizational goals.
- Leverage relationships with Board members, senior staff, and volunteers to support fundraising activities and engage them in the solicitation process.
Donor Engagement and Fundraising:
- Work with the Development team and other departments to create and implement strategies for increasing donor engagement and meeting fundraising goals through annual campaigns, matching gifts, and peer-to-peer fundraising.
- Expand ARC’s legacy and endowment giving, focusing on long-term growth strategy
- Manage relationships with major donors and corporate partners, ensuring regular communication, updates on ARC programs, and meaningful recognition.
- Develop proposals, grant applications, and other fundraising materials in collaboration with the CEO and senior leadership team.
Communications and Materials Development for Fundraing:
- Develop and oversee the creation of all communications and materials specifically for fundraising purposes, including donor appeals, case statements, impact reports, fundraising event materials, and donor recognition content.
- Ensure that all development materials effectively communicate ARC’s mission, programmatic impact, and the importance of donor support in a compelling and clear manner.
- Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications Manager and senior leadership to craft engaging donor-focused narratives that highlight the work of ARC and its impact on the amyloidosis community.
- Ensure timely and appropriate distribution of fundraising materials to donors and prospects, including through digital channels, direct mail, and in-person meetings.
- Develop and manage content for donor stewardship communications, including thank-you letters, donor newsletters, and annual reports, to maintain strong relationships with current and prospective donors.
Strategic Oversight and Reporting:
- Prepare detailed reports on fundraising progress and revenue forecasting for the CEO, Board, and senior leadership team.
- Provide recommendations for optimizing donor portfolio management, fundraising strategies, and team performance.
- Ensure fundraising goals are met in a timely manner and within budget, regularly assessing and adjusting strategies as necessary.
Operational and Database Management:
- Use Salesforce to track donor activity, generate reports, and manage donor relationships.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of a comprehensive donor database, ensuring accurate tracking of donations, pledges, and timely communications.
- Ensure systems and processes are in place to support ARC’s growing fundraising goals, including tracking donations, managing donor accounts, and integrating new technologies as necessary.
Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree with 10+ years, or a Master's degree with 7+ years of progressive experience in fundraising, donor relations, and nonprofit development, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Proven expertise in department management, institutional and annual giving campaign oversight, and donor relationship/account management.
- A demonstrated track record of success in raising funds by expanding the donor base and directly cultivating and soliciting major donors.
- Strong experience in individual giving, corporate partnerships, and strategic fundraising initiatives is essential.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling donor communications, proposals, and reports.
- Strong knowledge of fundraising tools and best practices, including grant writing and corporate sponsorship solicitation.
- Proven experience in strategic planning, project management, and team leadership.
- Excellent relationship-building skills, with a collaborative and inclusive approach to leadership.
- Expertise in using Salesforce or similar CRM systems for donor management and tracking.
- Experience with budget management, fundraising forecasting, and performance metrics.
- Familiarity with health-related or rare disease organizations.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Creative and strategic thinker with a passion for ARC’s mission and vision.
- Compassionate, flexible, collaborative work style; a sense of humor is a plus.
- Experience utilizing MS Office, Salesforce, project management tools such as Wrike, Smartsheet, or Microsoft Project, and document management systems such as Box.

Remote Work Opportunity - Work Schedule & Expectations:
This is a full-time, exempt position requiring 40 hours per week. The role is fully remote, with standard working hours from Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Eastern Time, to ensure effective collaboration with the team. Occasional travel may be required for meetings and events.
