General Position Description

The Research Associate will be responsible for carbon intensity estimation of bioenergy feedstocks and farm-to-gate food crops in agriculture. In the short term the candidate will be responsible for carbon intensity assessment using the GREET model in accordance with the requirements for tax incentives and greenhouse gas reporting standards.  The candidate will also provide guidance and support to researchers, product managers and other stakeholders in the organization to ensure that the findings are accurate, reliable, and actionable. A preferred but not required responsibility will entail the implementation and development of tools and approaches to address potential shortcomings in carbon intensity accounting in agriculture.


Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive carbon intensity assessments of agricultural products.

  • Develop and implement carbon intensity assessment tools for bioenergy feedstocks.

  • Analyze and interpret data related to carbon emissions, carbon intensity, and carbon footprint.

  • Ensure compliance with tax incentives, environmental policies, and greenhouse gas reporting standards. 

  • Stay up to date on tax incentives, environmental policies, and greenhouse gas reporting standards related to agriculture and biofuel production. 

  • Work closely with various departments to ensure the appropriate methodologies are applied, results are interpreted correctly, and guidelines are followed. 

  • Prepare and present reports on carbon intensity analysis.


Key Competencies / Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s of Science degree in related fields and 2 years experience in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Economics, or a related field.  Higher qualifications are also acceptable.

  • Proven experience in carbon and emissions accounting or life cycle assessment. Including proficiency with the GREET model and FD-CIC.

  • Experience in uncertainty quantification and developing simulations.

  • Knowledge relevant to climate smart agriculture practices.

  • Strong knowledge of environmental policies and biofuel carbon accounting, preferred.

  • Experience with Python for modeling, programming, and data analysis.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel) and spreadsheet analysis tools.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, with strong communication and presentation skills.


Employment Eligibility

Only applicants currently eligible to work in the United States will be considered for this position. 

The pay range for this role is:

90,000 - 120,000 USD per year (Remote - United States)
