The Role

As a Junior Underwriting Analyst at Ascent, you will play a crucial role in evaluating financial risks and ensuring adherence to sound credit practices. This position demands well-informed credit assessments through detailed analysis and close review of the Sponsor’s current and past financial profile. Your efforts will help consistently document a package for further internal Underwriting review, including Loan Committee.


The Work

  • Perform detailed credit analysis, evaluating the financial profiles of Sponsors.
  • Consult with both internal and external sources regarding Sponsor applications.
  • Provide consistent and accurate updates to both peers and your supervisor.
  • Monitor and analyze market trends, economic conditions, and industry-specific factors.
  • Recommend and implement best practices as part of Ascent's dedication to creating an industry-leading customer experience.
  • Work efficiently under minimum supervision.
  • Pay close attention to detail and consistency in analysis and findings presentation format.
  • Advise and/or review peer work product as a quality control.


Your Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business, economics, or a related field is preferred.
  • Five plus years’ relevant experience in credit analysis and financial statement evaluation.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard credit scoring models and underwriting processes.
  • Proficiency in financial software and tools, including Excel or other ‘spreads’ formats. 


The Pay

Salary range is $120,000-$140,000 per year, with a discretionary bonus of 15% per year



The Work Environment

  • This role works on-site from Ascent's Encino office, Monday - Thursday (Fridays are work-from-home).
  • Full-time, 40 hours per week; must be available for occasional overtime.
  • Some nights and weekends required.

The pay range for this role is:

120,000 - 140,000 USD per year (Los Angeles)
