About the role

As a Senior Data Engineer at AspenView, you will build and own the data ecosystem that powers analytics, business intelligence, and data science initiatives for our North American clients. Working alongside Data, Engineering, and IT specialists, you will define and deploy new data infrastructure and tooling while owning the pipelines that ingest and transform mission-critical data. This is a senior-level position providing technical leadership to the data engineering team, directly influencing how organizations leverage their most valuable asset: data.

What you will do:

  • Design, build, and optimize robust, scalable, and reliable data pipelines to ingest and process data from a wide variety of sources.
  • Develop and maintain data warehousing solutions (e.g., Snowflake), including maintenance of an advanced RBAC model to ensure data governance throughout all data tooling.
  • Ensure data quality and integrity by implementing data validation frameworks, monitoring systems, and anomaly detection protocols.
  • Architect and manage cloud-based data infrastructure.
  • Orchestrate batch machine learning pipelines and work closely with data scientists to align on optimizations based on data science and product requirements.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including data scientists, analysts, and product managers to understand data requirements and deliver actionable solutions.
  • Improve performance, efficiency, and cost optimization of existing data systems and processes.
  • Work alongside Data and Engineering leadership to weigh tradeoffs in build vs. buy decisions and product roadmap vs. technical initiatives.
  • Partner with internal software engineering teams to define architectures and best practices for ingesting data into the warehouse and surfacing aggregated metrics to production applications.
  • Interact with vendors to drive adoption of new technology and infrastructure for the team.
  • Leverage and promote team adoption of AI coding agents, ensuring best practices are defined and kept current as AI tooling advances.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and collaborate with Engineering leadership to define SLAs and alerting policies.
  • Lead incident management efforts, ensuring clear and timely communication with stakeholders.
  • Write and enhance technical and functional documentation on Data Engineering-owned systems and standards; proactively address gaps in team standards, SLAs, and operating principles.
  • Serve as a leader, mentor, and subject matter expert for the team, stakeholders, and peers, fostering a collaborative environment that drives solutions at a larger scope.

What you bring:

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering.
  • Expert proficiency in SQL and strong programming skills in Python.
  • Proven experience building and orchestrating data pipelines using dbt and Airflow.
  • Hands-on experience developing data solutions in a major cloud environment, with a strong preference for Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience with a modern cloud data warehouse such as Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, or Redshift.
  • Experience with machine learning concepts, frameworks, and infrastructure.
  • Solid understanding of BI tooling integrations with a cloud data warehouse, with a strong preference for Power BI.
  • Solid understanding of event-driven architecture and messaging systems like Kafka for real-time data flow.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, microservice architecture, domain-driven design, and data contracts.
  • Strong understanding of best practices around data security, privacy, and role-based access control.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
