About the role
- Under the direction of the management team, the Claims Representative- Material Damage/Total Loss performs the essential functions of the position, which include but is not limited to:
What you'll do
- Review and audit material damage estimates and supplements and make recommendations as to their accuracy to keep costs down and help oversee any appraisers we employ;
- Interact with shops, other carriers, customers, and attorneys with regard to the material damage/repair aspect of claims;
- Document review of appraisals from all sources and make recommendations as to whether appraisals reflect reasonable and customary charges;
- Be able to resolve all aspects of total losses, including their evaluations, offers, and settlement;
- Dispose of total loss vehicles in a cost-effective manner including determining accurate valuations, moving vehicles to storage-free locations promptly, and handling all total loss settlements in compliance with all laws and regulations;
- Promptly send appropriate DMV forms to owners, collect them upon return, ensure accuracy, and forward to salvage vendor to encourage maximum recovery from the sale of salvage and any/all other duties related to sale, movement, disposition, and handling of salvage;
- Promptly contact lienholders if applicable to ensure smooth and efficient total loss settlements and to arrange to obtain the title from them as quickly as possible;
- Suggest minimum salvage bids if the piece of salvage warrants it;
- Serves as a mentor or trainer for any material damage aspect of a claim;
- Ensure ongoing adjudication of claims within company standards and industry best practices and regulations;
- Produce grammatically correct and clearly written correspondence including letters, memos, reports, and claim file documentation;
- Complies with state and federal laws, Department of Insurance criteria, and insurance carrier criteria and follows and enforces Aspire General Insurance/partner’s policies, procedure, and work rules;
- Writes appraisals using licensed software;
- Regular and predictable punctuality and attendance;
- Other duties as necessary.
Qualifications
- Five plus years of experience in the Property and Casualty insurance industry;
- Must have a clear understanding of insurance industry practices, standards, and terminology;
- Experience handling vehicle estimating, all types of vehicle damage claims and repairs, and total losses;
- Must be able to pass a background check with the anticipated goal of acquiring and maintaining a current Independent Adjuster License with the Department of Insurance;
- Must have a disciplined approach to all job-related activities;
- Must have a solid foundation of personal organization, sound decision-making and analytical skills, and strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
