Facilities Electrician & Maintenance Specialist

Astra’s mission is to improve life on Earth from space by creating a healthier and more connected planet. Today, Astra offers one of the lowest cost-per-launch dedicated orbital launch services, and one of the industry’s leading flight-proven electric propulsion systems for satellites, the Astra Spacecraft Engine.

The Opportunity

Astra is seeking a versatile, high-impact California Certified Electrician to join our facilities team in Alameda. This role is unique; you will be the primary technical lead for all internal electrical projects—ranging from standard commercial wiring to complex high-voltage industrial systems—while also serving as a hands-on contributor to general facility builds and maintenance.

At Astra, we "build the rocket as it flies." You must be comfortable in a fast-paced, evolving startup environment and willing to step outside traditional electrical boundaries to ensure our mission-critical infrastructure remains operational.

How You'll Fulfill Your Mission

Electrical Engineering & Implementation

  • Full-Spectrum Electrical Support: Lead the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of all electrical systems across all voltages (Low, Medium, and High Voltage).
  • Infrastructure Projects: Execute full electrical service upgrades, conduit assembly, and wiring for new mechanical equipment and expanded facility needs.
  • Specialized Systems: Maintain and repair Switchgear, UPS Backup Systems, Standby Generators, and Building Grounding Systems.
  • Code Compliance: Ensure all work meets the National Electrical Code (NEC) and California Division of Industrial Safety standards.

Multi-Disciplinary Maintenance & Build Support

  • General Facilities Maintenance: Perform non-electrical tasks including repairs to HVAC systems, plumbing, and mechanical structures (e.g., cranes, roll-up doors, and man-lifts).
  • Project Fabrication: Support internal "build" projects, including basic rigging, assembly of structures, and operating heavy equipment like forklifts or scissor lifts.

Emergency Response: Participate in on-call rotations to address facility outages, faults, or urgent mission-critical repairs.

Why We Value You

  • Certification: Valid State of California Journeyman Electrician Certification is mandatory.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in industrial or commercial electrical wiring, maintenance, and repair.
  • Voltage Proficiency: Demonstrated experience working with 480/277V and 208/120V systems; experience with high-voltage (600V+) distribution is highly preferred.
  • Technical Literacy: Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, technical diagrams, and electrical schematics.
  • Physical Capability: Must be able to lift 50 lbs unassisted, work at elevated heights (up to 50+ feet), and operate in confined spaces.
  • Compliance: Must be a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR/EAR regulations.

Desired Multipliers

  • Experience with PLCs, VFDs, and building automation systems.
  • Prior experience in aerospace, manufacturing, or high-performance laboratory environments.
  • A "can-do" attitude with the flexibility to rapidly change roles and responsibilities in a high-stress environment.

The pay range for this role is: $41.37-55.16
