ATA provides a wide array of accounting, auditing, tax and advisory services for clients ranging from small family-owned businesses to international corporations. Headquartered in Jackson, Tennessee since 1940, ATA has approximately 250 employees across 14 locations throughout the Southeast.
A Bookkeeper coordinates and communicates with multiple ATA clients to gather information for keeping accurate accounting records and maintains records of financial transactions. A Bookkeeper may also calculate employee wages and prepare checks for payment of wages, prepare payroll tax deposits, quarterly payroll tax returns, and annual payroll reporting forms for ATA clients.
Bookkeeper Duties & Responsibilities
- Verify, allocate, and posts details of business transactions to subsidiary accounts - posting from sales slips, invoices, receipts, check stubs, and computer printouts
- Summarize details in separate ledgers and transfer data to general ledgers
- Reconcile and balance accounts, compile reports to show statistics such as cash receipts and expenditures, accounts payable and receivable, profit and loss, and other items pertinent to operation of business
- Prepare, maintain, process, and reconcile complex payrolls
- Process changes in pay, tax status, garnishments, and other employee information accurately and efficiently
- Prepare quarterly Federal, State, and Local returns
- File reports for ACA, W2, 1099 etc.
- Review and reconcile a variety of payroll reports including payroll taxes, benefits reports, quarterly taxes, ACA reporting, and retirement contributions
- Ensure all local, state, and federal rules and regulations are followed
- Answer questions from clients regarding payroll processes, procedures, and reports
Bookkeeper Required Education, Skills, & Qualifications
- Any combination of education, training, and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying
- QuickBooks desktop and QuickBooks Online certification and/or experience required
- General ledger maintenance experience required
- Experience processing payroll required
- Experience processing quarterly payroll tax returns strongly preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, & Excel
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail

- Effective time management skills to meet specific deadlines
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
**This position may be required to work weekends depending on workflow and busy seasons.
