Senior Mechanical Engineer

What you'll do

  • Develop components for novel thermal systems that increase performance, improve service life, decrease service intervals, and improve packaging. Efforts include: working with critical suppliers, using engineering simulation tools to design components, and lead fabrication and testing of new components.
  • Design and detail components and test facilities for process thermal energy systems. Designs include rotating equipment, compressors, structural steel, piping, pumps, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and related equipment using 3D CAD.
  • Develop technical drawings and documentation for test facility, component, and equipment designs, including schematics, P&IDs, BOMs, assembly drawings, 2D fabrication drawings, and piping layouts.
  • Occasionally fabricate necessary components and test facilities, install and troubleshoot equipment and data acquisition systems.
  • Analyze test results and compare to simulations to identify areas for optimization and improvement.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure that new components are properly integrated into products.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience developing thermal systems and components
  • Experience with the design, fabrication, and testing of thermal systems
  • Proficiency with 3D modeling software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD or similar
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Preferred candidates have one or more of the following qualifications
  • MS or PhD in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or related field
  • Experience with the design of heat exchangers
  • Experience with the design of compressors
  • Experience in the HVAC and/or boiler industries
  • Proficiency in specialized simulation software such as Engineering Equation Solver, Aspen Plus, Matlab/Simulink, or HTRI
  • Experienced in GD&T

The pay range for this role is:

115,000 - 135,000 USD per year (Powerhouse I)
