Aura Genetics is a high-complexity diagnostic laboratory servicing the booming at-home testing and wellness market, has teamed up with UPS Healthcare to build Aura’s new headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky. Aura’s main lab will be constructed at the end of the runway at the Louisville airport, giving Aura Genetics an unprecedented logistical advantage to provide test results faster.

Job Title: Chemistry and Hematology Laboratory Technologist

Location: Louisville, KY – Aura Genetics of Kentucky, LLC

Type: Full-Time
Shift: Third Shift, Tuesday – Saturday, 12:00 AM – 8:30 AM

Reports To: Chemistry and Hematology Supervisor/Lab Manager




Job Summary:

The Chemistry and Hematology Lab Technologist performs moderate to high-complexity testing in accordance with CAP, CLIA, and OSHA requirements. This role is essential to providing timely and accurate laboratory results in the clinical chemistry and hematology departments. Technicians in this role will be expected to carry out testing, quality control, maintenance, and data documentation under the supervision of qualified laboratory management.




Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Laboratory Testing & Workflow
    1. Perform moderate and high-complexity testing on patient samples in clinical chemistry and hematology, including but not limited to: metabolic panels, CBCs, cellular differentials, immunoassays, coagulation profiles, and other routine clinical assays.
    2. Operate and troubleshoot automated analyzers and ensure functionality through calibration and preventive maintenance.
    3. Ensure proper specimen identification, handling, and processing in accordance with SOPs.
  2. Quality & Compliance
    1. Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and manufacturer’s instructions to ensure test accuracy.
    2. Conduct and document quality control (QC) activities; recognize, troubleshoot, and report QC failures.
    3. Maintain proficiency and documentation to comply with CAP accreditation and CLIA Subpart M – §493.1423.
    4. Participate in internal and external proficiency testing as assigned.
  3. Documentation & Data Reporting
    1. Accurately document all test results and instrument logs in the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
    2. Recognize and immediately escalate critical values or instrument malfunctions to supervisory personnel.
    3. Assist with preliminary data review in alignment with laboratory policies.
  4. Safety & Regulatory Compliance
    1. Adhere to all biosafety, chemical safety, and OSHA standards, including universal precautions and PPE protocols.
    2. Participate in routine safety training and drills.
    3. Maintain awareness of and compliance with CLIA, CAP, HIPAA, and OSHA
      regulations.
  5. Communication & Collaboration
    1. Communicate professionally with clinical teams, including nursing and provider staff.
    2. Collaborate with lab team members to ensure efficient sample flow and turnaround times.
    3. Provide guidance to new staff or trainees under supervision, as needed.


Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in medical technology from an accredited university or college.
    • Bachelor’s degree in the biological sciences, with one year of pertinent full-time
      laboratory experience in clinical chemistry and hematology.
  • Experience:
    • At least 2 years of recent experience in a CAP-accredited clinical laboratory performing chemistry and/or hematology testing.
    • Proficient with automated analyzers (e.g., Sysmex, Beckman Coulter, Roche) and LIS platforms
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong understanding of laboratory instrumentation, quality control procedures, and data interpretation.
    • Proficient in troubleshooting and maintaining laboratory equipment.
    • Familiarity with safety protocols and regulatory guidelines (CLIA, CAP, OSHA).
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
    • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.




Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a high-volume laboratory setting.
  • Familiarity with advanced hematology and clinical chemistry instrumentation.
  • Continuing education or professional development in laboratory sciences.
  • National certification such as ASCP (MLT or MLS) or AMT is strongly preferred and may be required depending on state law.
