Aura’s main lab will be constructed at the end of the runway at the Louisville airport, giving Aura Genetics an unprecedented logistical advantage to provide test results faster.

Job Title: Mass Spectrometry General Supervisor

Job Summary:

We are seeking a knowledgeable and highly organized Mass Spectrometry General Supervisor to lead daily operations in our high-volume reference laboratory in Louisville, KY. This role involves direct supervision of lab personnel, ensuring quality control, and overseeing testing processes involving advanced LC-MS technology. The ideal candidate will have experience operating mass spectrometry equipment, performing routine diagnostics, and guiding laboratory staff in a fast-paced clinical environment. Hours for this position are third shift Tuesday - Saturday 12am-8am.




Key Responsibilities:

Supervision & Workflow Management

  • Supervise day-to-day operations of the mass spectrometry department, including oversight of testing personnel.
  • Provide leadership and technical guidance to ensure timely and accurate testing.
  • Participate in hiring, training, performance evaluations, and competency assessments of staff.

Mass Spectrometry Testing & Support

  • Operate and troubleshoot LC/MS instruments (Thermo Fisher Altis and Quantis preferred).
  • Perform routine calibration, QC, and diagnostic testing on patient specimens.
  • Prepare and process samples for LC/MS analysis, including dilution calculations and mobile phase reagent prep.
  • Use Quantitation software to review and interpret test data and results.

Quality Control & Regulatory Compliance

  • Monitor quality control performance, ensuring compliance with CLIA and CAP standards.
  • Initiate corrective or preventive actions when performance deviates from established criteria.
  • Document all nonconformances, investigate root causes, and follow up with proper resolution.
  • Ensure that test results are not released until acceptable performance is confirmed.

Lab Operations & Safety

  • Maintain laboratory supplies including PPE, reagents, and consumables to support efficient workflow.
  • Perform and document routine equipment maintenance and cleaning.
  • Evaluate quality indicators (e.g., turnaround time, rejected specimens, QC failure rates).
  • Adhere to all safety practices and regulatory requirements, including OSHA and HIPAA.

Training & Development

  • Participate in the orientation, training, and continued education of staff.
  • Assign and track proficiency testing and competency assessments.
  • Ensure documentation of training and competencies is current and compliant.




Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Education & Certification:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field.
    • Board certification as a Medical Technologist (ASCP or equivalent).
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 4 years of experience in a CLIA-licensed clinical lab.
    • Minimum 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role preferred.
    • Hands-on experience with LC/MS instrumentation and sample preparation protocols.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of mass spectrometry technology, quality assurance, and lab workflow.
    • Ability to troubleshoot instruments and analyze complex data sets.
    • Proficient in statistical analysis, SOP development, and LIS usage.
    • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
