Head of People and Culture- Contract

The Opportunity

The Head of People and Culture is a key leadership role responsible for building and supporting a strong, engaged, and high-performing workforce. This posting is a 13 month contract position to cover a maternity leave.

This role is both strategic and operational. You will work closely with the executive team and leaders across the organization while also managing the day-to-day people operations required to support a growing, remote workforce.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in strengthening our people practices, developing leaders, supporting employee engagement and retention, improving HR processes and compliance, and building scalable programs that support BanQsi's continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment, Talent Acquisition & Retention

  • Lead the full-cycle recruitment process, including workforce planning, job postings, candidate sourcing, screening, interviewing, offers, and onboarding.
  • Partner with leaders to identify current and future hiring needs.
  • Develop and implement strategies to attract, retain, and engage high-performing employees.
  • Strengthen BanQsi's employer brand and employee value proposition.
  • Develop and maintain effective onboarding and employee integration programs.
  • Support succession planning, workforce planning, and business continuity initiatives.
  • Monitor employee engagement and retention trends and recommend initiatives to improve the employee experience.

 

People Operations & HR Administration

  • Oversee day-to-day people operations and employee lifecycle processes.
  • Support payroll administration and ensure accurate tracking and coordination of employee changes.
  • Oversee timesheet administration, vacation and leave tracking, and employee accruals.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and HRIS information.
  • Support the administration of employee leaves, including parental and other statutory leaves.
  • Ensure consistent and efficient people processes across the organization.

 

Total Rewards & Benefits

  • Lead and support total compensation reviews, including salary benchmarking and compensation planning.
  • Partner with leadership to ensure compensation practices remain competitive, equitable, and aligned with business objectives.
  • Oversee employee benefits administration and support ongoing evaluation of benefit programs.
  • Support the administration and evolution of BanQsi's total rewards offerings, including compensation, benefits, vacation, leave programs, and other employee programs.
  • Provide recommendations to leadership regarding compensation structures, salary increases, and people investments.

 

Leadership Development & Training

  • Lead the development and implementation of leadership development programs.
  • Partner with leaders to identify training and development needs across the organization.
  • Develop learning and development initiatives that strengthen leadership capability, employee skills, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Support managers with coaching and guidance on employee performance, development, communication, and people leadership.
  • Develop and maintain training programs for onboarding, cross-training, leadership, and professional development.

 

Performance Management & Employee Development

  • Support the development and implementation of a consistent performance management framework.
  • Partner with leaders to establish clear expectations, development opportunities, and accountability.
  • Support performance reviews, goal-setting processes, employee development planning, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Provide guidance to managers on performance and employee relations matters.

 

Policies, Processes & Compliance

  • Develop, review, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and employee programs.
  • Create clear and scalable processes to support a growing and geographically distributed workforce.
  • Improve HR documentation, record-keeping, and internal processes.
  • Monitor employment legislation and support ongoing compliance across applicable jurisdictions.
  • Identify people-related risks and recommend proactive solutions.
  • Support the development and maintenance of workplace health and safety practices and required committees or programs.

 

Strategic People Leadership

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the executive team and people leaders.
  • Participate in organizational planning and provide strategic people insights to support business decisions.
  • Develop and report on key people metrics, including recruitment, retention, turnover, engagement, compensation, and workforce trends.
  • Support organizational design, role clarity, job descriptions, and career development.
  • Contribute to the development of a strong, inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing culture.
  • Lead and support special people and culture initiatives as BanQsi continues to grow.

 

What We're Looking For

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
  • HR designation required.
  • Demonstrated experience in a progressive Human Resources or People and Culture leadership role.
  • Extensive experience supporting a growing, fast-paced, or geographically distributed organization.
  • Strong knowledge of recruitment, employee relations, compensation, benefits, performance management, and HR operations.
  • Experience supporting payroll processes, employee timesheets, vacation tracking, and employee accruals.
  • Experience developing HR policies, processes, programs, and scalable people practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership development and learning and development initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of employment legislation and HR compliance requirements.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and influencing skills.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Comfortable balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
  • Strong judgment, discretion, and ability to handle confidential information.

Salary Range: $100,000–$140,000 CAD annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
