We are seeking an experienced Proposal Writer to join a dynamic and human-centered business development team. Curiosity, flexibility, and a desire to learn and grow are essential for thriving in this position.
As a Proposal Writer at Banyan, you will:
- Lead the team in the development of proposal text for federal, state and local government agencies, as well as community-based and other not-for-profit organizations
- Serve as the lead writer and organizer of various proposal sections, including executive summaries, tasking, management, staffing (including resumes and bios), past performance, etc.
- Conduct rapid literature review, research of background materials, and gather additional contextual information to help ensure proposals are strategic, align with industry-standard best practices, meet proposal requirements, and align with client preferences, needs, and goals
- Collaborate with a diverse team of strategic and creative specialists to illuminate evidence-based methodology and innovative approaches for achieving client goals and convey these with a story-teller’s sensibilities
- Maintain positive working relationships with partners, both internal and external
- Collaborate closely with the the VP of Strategy and the broader Business Development team to strategize, troubleshoot, and support a culture of open, thoughtful feedback and continuous improvement
This role requires a track record of demonstrable work experience and professional ingenuity, showing that you are:
- Can comfortably embrace and provide feedback

- Consistently develop compliant, complete, and compelling text
- Review and provide feedback on text written by other team members, including staff members and teammates
- Provide a review and fine-tuning to proposals that ensures they are written in “one-voice,” expertly editing text that has been written by multiple authors with varying experience contributing to proposals
- Thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Manage multiple, simultaneous bids, shifting priorities, and tight deadlines efficiently- all while maintaining quality of work
- Possess a working knowledge of federal contracting and grant writing
- Understand business development and proposal development processes
Required skills and experiences include:
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field and 5+ years of experience as a proposal writer, with an emphasis on HHS clients; or 7+ years of experience as a proposal writer, with an emphasis on HHS clients
- Strong skills and attention to detail in writing, editing, and formatting proposals
- Experience with multiple word processing applications (e.g., Google Docs, Pages, Microsoft Word, GovWin) or ability to quickly learn
- Experience with tools such as Salesforce and GovWin
Compensation:
Salaries for this open position start from $90,000 commensurate with level and experience.
