The Director of Lighting plays a key role in creating an engaging environment across all campuses that enhance worship experience and the teaching of God’s Word. This position leads the lighting strategy and execution for weekend services, events, and broadcasts, ensuring each lighting element reflects the creative vision and mission of our church. 

  

This role includes designing, programming, and operating lighting systems, as well as training and developing volunteer teams to grow in both technical skill and spiritual leadership. The Director of Lighting collaborates closely with worship, video, and production teams to support an engaging, Christ-centered experience for all who attend in-person or online. 

 

Your Day-to-Day 

Every day looks different, but here’s a snapshot of what you’ll be up to: 

  • Perform regular maintenance on lighting equipment, ensuring it is clean, calibrated, and functioning properly.  
  • Keep inventory of lighting and staging equipment across all campuses.  
  • Ensure the safe use and rigging of all stage sets and production related equipment.   
  • Stays current with technological advancements in lighting systems and recommend updates to the church’s lighting infrastructure as needed. 
  • Programs weekly lighting for broadcast campus. Operates lighting console for any Sunday service and special events, as needed. 
  • Designs new stage sets, as needed. Works with the experience team to think of and execute creative ideas in lighting, staging and special effects. 
  • Trains and develops board operators, designers and lighting technicians across all campuses, technically and spiritually. 
  • Perform other church duties as assigned by the [ENTER MANGER JOB TITLE] to help all people, of all ages, all the time, advance in their journey with Christ     

What We’re Looking For 

The must-haves for this role: 

  • Education & Experience: We are looking for someone with a Bachelor’s Degree and at least 5 years of experience in lighting or production.  Having experience in a multi-site environment is an added plus! 
  • Skills & Strengths: If you’re driven by a desire to make an eternal impact and be part of God’s plan for Gospel transformation, you’ll thrive here!  We are looking for someone with experience in: 
    • A heart for ministry and a passion for using technology to enhance worship and church outreach. 
    • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and motivate volunteers. 
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure. 
    • Programming and running GrandMA and Vista lighting consoles.   
    • Running live performances such as concerts, theater and/or houses of worship.   
    • Understands DMX protocol, patching and lighting networking.  
    • Experience with moving fixtures, LEDs and conventional lighting fixtures.  
    • Understands LED wall use, setup and using Resolume Arena.  
    • Understands rigging and electric work with experience using a scissor lift, bucket lift and boom lift.

The Essentials 

Depending on the role, you might find yourself in an office, on stage, out in the community, or working behind the scenes. Evening and weekend hours may be required—it’s all part of ministry life! 

This role is primarily office-based but may involve some physical activity, including standing, lifting (up to 75 pounds), kneeling, setting up equipment, or prepping for events—sometimes even late at night. You will also need to have the ability to work in a scissor lift at a working height of 30 feet and above. Don’t worry; we’ll ensure you know what to expect!
