Manager, R&D Test -Components & Rigs

Role overview:

Beehive Industries is looking for you to join our Product Engineering team as the R&D Test Manager for components and rigs.  In this role, you will lead a team to design, development, build and test components and rigs for all engine programs, including instrumentation scope for all development hardware. You will also collaborate with the facilities, EHS, and engineering teams to build future test facilities at Beehive Industries. This position will report to the Director of Controls and R&D Testing.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead all development efforts for component and rig testing. This includes, but is not limited to, the scope, schedule, resources, and cost to execute the tests. Create detailed operational test processes to conduct the tests in a safe manner and achieve the test objectives.
  • Lead the build and construction of new test stands and capabilities at Beehive Industries
  • Partner with internal customers (Systems Engineering, etc.) to gather requirements and conduct R&D test reviews to assure the test setups and outcomes achieve the desired results.
  • Lead overall instrumentation efforts for hardware and engine tests, including instrumentation scope, procurement, and application to capture the necessary data on a test. Support technology maturation plans with the Systems Engineering teams.
  • Lead and/or support integration of the instrumentation into data acquisition systems, and how those data acquisition systems integrate into the test stands.
  • Create processes on how to standardize development testing in addition to communicating/documenting results and lessons learned.
  • Lead corrective actions pertaining to test setup and execution lessons learned.
  • Primary contact with third party partners and universities to conduct R&D component and/or rig testing.  
  • Support engine development assembly and testing in addition to rigs and components.
  • Support assessing the impact to program related requirements such as product cost, schedule, performance, and budget upon the completion of testing.
  • Own the engineering budget for component and rig testing, including the creation of proposals for future capabilities. Lead program management efforts as necessary.
  • Review and approve engineering documents, drawings, and programmatic or technical information pertaining to component and rig tests. Assure proper documentation of all information. Support the component and rig design, design reviews, procurement of hardware, create test cards and operational procedures, and oversee the testing.
  • Interview and hire additional personnel to grow the team.
  • Communicate important business and technical information to both internal and external stakeholders in a clear, organized, and concise manner. 
  • Work with suppliers and manufacturing to resolve technical and quality challenges.    

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in Engineering or STEM-related discipline from an accredited university or college
  • At least 13 years of experience in jet engine design, analysis, test, and/or development.
  • At least 8 years of experience working in a development test environment.
  • Understanding and experience defining and installing instrumentation.
  • Test enabling equipment experience, fundamental understanding and first principles on fluids, pneumatics, and rotating equipment.
  • Experience with data acquisition system setup and integration.
  • Background in aerospace engine systems and/or testing the systems; working knowledge of engine systems, turbomachinery, engine-vehicle integration, controls and electronics, and auxiliary systems such as pumps, actuators, and generators.
  • Technical leadership skills. Ability to make decisions with limited information in changing environments. 
  • Experience working with additive manufacturing technologies and familiarity with design for additive manufacturing principles.
  • Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability and strong program leadership and execution skills
  • Proven self-starter and quick learner who can work in fast-paced cross-functional teams.
