Greenhouse Caretaker

About the role

  • The Greenhouse Caretaker is responsible for the daily care of a variety of plants in the greenhouse and in the department.  Greenhouse Caretaker is also responsible for the daily upkeep of the greenhouse facilities.
  • The Caretaker should live close to or on campus due to the frequency of times required to work. 


Qualifications

  • Must be able to work every weekday and at least one weekend day per week. Preference is given to candidates who can work every day of the week.
  • Must be able to work independently and complete assigned tasks without supervision.
  • Ability to communicate well with others
  • Must be responsible and dependable.
  • Must be a current student at Bethel University.
  • Previous experience with plants preferred.

 

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the Greenhouse Caretaker will work in the following environments:

  • Indoor controlled, temperate environment.
  • Hot and humid environment in the greenhouse.

 

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an Animal Caretaker to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and routinely lift/move at least 30 pounds.
  • Ability to use small step ladders to perform work.
  • Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus, with or without corrective lenses.

Expected Hours of Work:

The work expectations for Greenhouse Caretaker student employees includes:

  • Must be able to work daily Monday through Friday for .5-2 hours per day.  The Caretaker must also be able to work at least one day per weekend and ideally both weekend days most of the time.
  • Daily work times will be arrange based on the Caretaker’s school schedule, but must occur between 7AM and 9PM
  • Student employees may not work over 20 hours per week during the school year among all Bethel employment.
