About the role
- The Critical Support Assistant (CSA) is responsible for a wide variety of departmental duties during the summer months. The most important duties of a CSA will be in caring for a variety of animals such as rodents, fish, frogs, birds, and possibly more. In addition to the care of animals, the CSA will care for the plants in the greenhouse, conduct safety checks in the department, and other duties as needed
Qualifications
- Must be available to work the majority of the summer (Saturday, May 23, 2026 to Sunday, August 30,
- 2026).
- Must live close enough to campus to come for work shifts that vary between 1 and 4 hours.
- Must be able to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays as assigned.
- Must be able to work independently and complete assigned tasks without supervision.
- Ability to communicate well with others
- Must be responsible and dependable.
- Must be a current student at Bethel University.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the CSA employee will/may work in the following environments:
- Indoor controlled, temperate environment.
- Hot and humid environment in the greenhouse.
- Outdoor work environment taking care of the birds in the outdoor aviary. Work will occur in a variety of weather conditions including inclement weather (rain, snow, heat, cold, etc.)
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a CSA employee to
successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and routinely lift/move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to use small step ladders to perform work.
- Ability to work with hands in water to perform work in aquaria.
- Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus, with or without corrective lenses.

Expected Hours of Work:
The work expectations for CSA employees includes:
- The CSA must be able to work between 3- 7 days a week depending on agree upon schedule worked out with supervisor and other CSA employees.
- For each day the CSA is assigned to work, the CSA will work between 1-4 hours depending on workload.
- Daily assigned work must occur between 7AM and 9PM
- Student employees may not work over 20 hours per week during the school year among all Bethel employment or not over 40 hours per week during the summer among all Bethel employment.
