Summer Community Garden and Farming Employee: Center for Community Engaged Learning (CCEL) and Urban Farm & Garden Alliance (UFGA)

About the role

  • Students will be working alongside cutting-edge community organizations that are addressing inequities in our food system.  The Urban Farm and Garden Alliance is innovating ways to grow food in an urban context. Students will work with these organizations on a variety of projects. Projects will include youth development programming (Children’s Garden), farming, administrative tasks, and event planning. Students will work on the annual Peace Celebration Planning committee, co-coordinating and co-organizing the National Night Out/ National Afternoon Out (NNO) event at the Peace Sanctuary Garden.

Qualifications

  • Current Bethel Student (will be re-enrolling in the fall semester of 2026) 
  • Respectfulness and ability to work in a racially, economically, socially, and religiously diverse  environment  
  • Ability to communicate well with others  
  • Ability to work independently and autonomously  
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a community environment with varying approaches to time  
  • Have a driver's license  
  • Qualify for community work-study   
  • Must have a minimum 2.0 GPA

 

Work Environment:

Most of the work will be conducted outdoors and require physical labor (planting, watering, and weeding crops).  

 

Physical Demands:

Tending gardens and community agricultural spaces. Digging and lifting bags of vegetation, soil, and garden materials/equipment. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

 

Expected Hours of Work:

  • 40 hours a week. Students will be able to request time off but must follow the time-off request process.

The pay range for this role is:

18 - 18 USD per hour (Urban Farm & Garden Alliance (UFGA))
