About Neuralace
Neuralace is advancing the future of brain-computer interface (BCI) technology through innovation, precision, and purpose. We're growing a team dedicated to developing groundbreaking neurotech solutions that bridge the gap between science and real-world impact.

About the Internship
The Preclinical Research Team at Blackrock Neurotech is seeking motivated and detail-oriented short-term and long-term interns to support ongoing work in neuroengineering, preclinical validation, and benchtop testing of implantable neural interface technologies. This internship offers hands-on experience in both in vivo and in vitro research aimed at advancing next generation neuroprosthetic systems.

Interns will contribute to experimental design, data collection, and analysis across biological and engineering workflows that bridge the gap between research and clinical application.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct and/or support in vitro (benchtop) testing of neural interface devices, including:
    • Mechanical testing (e.g., tensile strength, bending fatigue)
    • Electrical testing (e.g., impedance, noise characterization)
    • Electrochemical testing (e.g., cyclic voltammetry, EIS)
    • System verification testing
  • Assist with in vivo preclinical experiments, including animal model support and data collection
  • Perform data analysis and visualization using MATLAB, Python, or equivalent tools
  • Maintain detailed and accurate lab records, adhering to experimental protocols and data management standards
  • Collaborate closely with scientists, engineers, and clinical researchers to integrate findings across test platforms

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field
  • Prior lab experience in benchtop testing, electrophysiology, or biological sample handling
  • Familiarity with data analysis and visualization tools (MATLAB, Python, Excel, Origin, etc.)
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills
  • Interest in neural interfaces, implantable devices, and translational neurotechnology

Analytical Abilities

  • Strong critical thinking and hypothesis-driven reasoning
  • Ability to design and document reproducible experiments
  • Statistical literacy for interpreting clinical or behavioral data

Personal Qualities

  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent communication for cross-disciplinary collaboration
  • Adaptability when working in regulated environments

What You'll Gain

  • Experience in multi-modal testing of implantable neurodevices (mechanical, electrical, and biological domains)
  • Exposure to preclinical R&D workflows, bridging device design and clinical translation
  • Mentorship from a multidisciplinary team of neuroscientists and engineers
  • Opportunities to contribute to publications, presentations, and prototype evaluations
  • A front-row seat to innovation driving the future of brain–computer interfaces (BCIs)

Internship Benefits

  • Public transportation pass reimbursement (up to $100/month)
  • Company swag
  • Company-sponsored events
  • Company-sponsored intern social events
  • 12 company-paid holidays
  • 3 paid sick days
  • Employee recognition program
  • Weekly catered lunches
  • Fully stocked kitchen with snacks and drinks
