Associate Environment Artist - Manizales, Colombia

This is a full-time position based in Manizales, Colombia, with a fulltime onsite requirement at the studio once established. 

 

Associate Environment Artists at BSG:

You have a solid foundational understanding of the environment art pipeline, supported by early professional experience or personal projects. You've begun to develop your skillset and are eager to continue growing as an artist. You’re reliable, receptive to feedback, and proactive about seeking opportunities to improve. 

You’ve contributed to the creation of environments and assets, and you’re excited to keep building on that experience. You’re comfortable working independently on tasks, but you also thrive in collaborative settings where you can learn from others and contribute to the team’s goals. 
 

Role and Responsibilities   

Blind Squirrel Games (BSG) is looking for an Associate Environment Artist to join us in creating compelling and immersive environment art for an upcoming project. 

Supported by the Art Director and project Leads, the Associate  Environment Artist is responsible for helping to craft visually stunning 3D environments, working collaboratively within their team to deliver high-quality assets and locations that align with the project’s realistic art style, design requirements, and technical parameters. 
 

As an Associate Environment Artist at BSG, you will contribute to the project by crafting high-quality models, textures, and game assets, as well as set dressing environments for gameplay and narrative purposes.  

The ideal candidate for this role has a proven track record of building detailed,   realistic, AAA quality environments and assets for games and can translate a thorough artistic understanding of the environment art pipeline into consistent deliverables that meet project expectations and deadlines. 

 

 

Responsibilities 

  • Utilize industry standard software to develop realistic, AAA quality assets including modeling, sculpting, texturing and in-engine integration. 
  • Utilize Unreal Engine 5 to build and set dress realistic, highly detailed environments, including terrain. 
  • Partner with production to identify individual tasks and set realistic schedules. 
  • Work directly with other artists, designers, and engineers to ensure environments and assets adhere to gameplay and performance metrics. 
  • Iterate on environment designs based on feedback from art directors, designers, and playtesters. 
  • Strictly adhere to file naming and organizational standards. 
  •  Use version control systems such as Perforce or Git to track changes and revisions to environment assets. 
  • Contribute to the development and optimization of the environment art pipeline. 

 

Qualifications and Education Requirements 

  • Professional game experience is preferred, but personal projects demonstrating relevant skills are also welcome. 
  • Portfolio demonstrating ability to design and craft realistic, highly detailed environments and assets. 

 

Preferred Skills 

  • Expertise with PBR, lighting, rendering, and material authoring. 
  • Intimate knowledge of environment art pipelines and dependencies. 
  • Passion for 3D environment art, set dressing, lighting, topology, and texturing. 
  • Advanced understanding of Maya, 3DS Max, Photoshop, Substance Designer/Painter, and Zbrush. 
  • Strong foundational skills, including composition, design, shape, structure, silhouette, and color theory. 
  • Proficient with project management/task tracking software like Jira. 
  • Extensive experience working in UE5, Unity, or other contemporary engines. 
  • Goal-oriented and can receive and implement professional feedback. 
  • Well-organized, self-motivated, and possess strong time-management skills. 
  • Proactive in clearly communicating issues to the team and seeking solutions.
