Who We Are:
We are an early-stage, maritime defense technology startup backed by top tier investors. Our team is designing and building autonomous and highly producible ships that can serve multiple missions on the open ocean.
The Role:
We are seeking someone who thrives as part of a purpose-driven team. We're a small, mission-driven team shaping the future of maritime autonomy. We work hard, we test often, and sometimes we get soaked by sea spray—and we love what we’re building.
You will lead the development of the power electronic systems on our ships.
What You’ll Do:
- Outline power electronics system specifications based on the mission requirements.
- Create system architecture, including rectification, inversion, switching, filtering and distribution.
- Design, prototype, and test various high power electronic components for autonomous ships.
- Select and manage 3rd party integrators and suppliers.
- Collaborate with team members (software, electrical, mechanical e.g.) working on other, connected systems.
- Evaluate circuit topologies and circuit components through simulation and analysis to understand steady-state operating conditions and identify potential issues with voltage levels, overloads and energy losses.
- Conduct theoretical analysis and experiments to optimize the power converter efficiencies.
- Use ETAP modeling systems to ensure the system is safe.
- Define subsystem and system-level tests to validate the newly implemented algorithms and their interactions with the existing features.
- Conduct power system analysis on load flow, short-circuit, and arc flash failures.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, safety protocols and environmental regulations.
Who You Are:
- Solid background in power electronics systems with strong analytical skills. Deep understanding of control theory and operating principles of AC/DC, DC/DC and DC/AC resonant converter topologies and micro grids.
- Experience designing and working on high voltage systems (480V3P and 800 VDC).
- Strong understanding of high voltage safety.
- Practical and hands on. Comfortable turning a wrench and crimping as needed.
- Internal drive to seek excellence, curious, and constant learning. Inspire those around you to be their best.
- Ability to thrive under pressure and time constraints. Highly motivated, self-starter with great attention to detail and also big picture systems level understanding.
- History of working through ambiguity and developing systems from a clean sheet, including software architecture, implementation, integration, test, debug and deployment.
- Thrive working in a high-performance team with a “get it done attitude” and a distaste for bureaucracy and waste.
Nice To Haves:
- Masters or PhD in Electrical Engineering specialized in power electronics or controls with a minimum of 2 years working as a design or team lead.
- Expert in MATLAB/Simulink. Experience with modeling power converters in offline (MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS) and real-time simulation platforms (Opal-RT, Typhoon HIL).
- Programming experience in C/C++, and Python. Capable of delivering high-quality code in an embedded microcontroller environment.
- Experience on the ocean.
- Ability to obtain and hold a US secret security clearance.
We are an equal opportunity employer. All hiring is contingent on eligibility to work in the United States. We are unable to sponsor or transfer visas for applicants.
