Electrical Engineering Lead

Who We Are:

We are an early-stage, maritime defense technology startup backed by top tier investors. Our team is designing and building autonomous and highly producible ships that can serve multiple missions on the open ocean.

The Role:

You’ll lead the design and development of the electrical brains and nervous system of our autonomous ships—from high-power propulsion to low-level signal integrity. You’ll take complex, cross-domain requirements and turn them into robust, testable hardware systems that can survive and thrive in harsh maritime environments.

This role is for someone who loves taking ideas from whiteboard to wave-spray. Some days you’ll be deep in layout reviews; others, you’ll be elbow-deep in a hull with a multimeter.

We are seeking someone who thrives as part of a purpose-driven team. We're a small, mission-driven team shaping the future of maritime autonomy. We work hard, we test often, and sometimes we get soaked by sea spray—and we love what we’re building.

What You’ll Do:

  • Create the electrical system architecture for both the high voltage propulsion power system and low voltage control systems.
  • Develop requirements for subsystems and payloads including sensor interfaces, power distribution, and networking.
  • Define key components specifications for several subsystems including,  main power generator, main breaker, bus bars, power electronics, step up/down transformers, isolation transformers, DC converters, and energy storage.
  • Develop detailed schematics and system interconnect diagrams to define wire harnesses across electronic subsystems.
  • Design detailed wiring harnesses for 24v control systems including power and communication buses.
  • Troubleshoot hardware/software boundary issues using both lab tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers) and embedded debugging techniques.
  • Support field deployments and customer-operated hardware with practical, rapid-response fixes.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, software, firmware, and systems engineers to deliver fully integrated solutions.
  • Conduct peer and cross-functional design reviews to ensure robustness, scalability, and safety.
  • Lead or contribute to vessel-level electrical system design, analysis, and testing.

Who You Are:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, with 7+ years of experience in complex electrical system.
  • Fluent in analog and digital circuit design and debugging.
  • Skilled with lab tools: oscilloscopes, current probes, logic analyzers, thermal testing, etc.
  • Comfortable with modern electrical CAD tools (Altium preferred).
  • Familiar with common MCU/CPU/FPGA devices and interfaces like Ethernet, CAN, I2C, SPI, PCIe, and USB.
  • Able to design with signal and power integrity in mind.
  • Strong understanding of high-reliability, fieldable systems—especially power electronics and battery systems.
  • Hands-on and solution-oriented: when something breaks, you’re the first to grab a wrench or a scope.
  • Familiar with software development environments (GitHub, JIRA, etc).
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving, startup-style team environment.
  • Eligible for a U.S. Secret security clearance.

Nice To Haves:

  • Experience with RF systems or payload/sensor integration.
  • Field testing experience in harsh environments (especially maritime).
  • Familiarity with uncertainty analysis or worst-case circuit analysis.
  • Experience in integrating high-power systems and energy storage (batteries, power converters, etc).
  • A background in building reliable, mission-critical systems for aerospace, defense, or maritime applications.
  • A love for real-world engineering and solving problems with tools in hand.

What We Offer:

  • Incredibly high caliber teammates. You’ll work directly with our co-founders Rylan, Scott and Austin.
  • A fast-paced, creative working environment that offers a lot of room for ownership and growth.
  • Significant equity package.
  • Generous PTO, medical, and dental coverage.
  • Ability to make a difference and work on a meaningful mission that protects America and our Democracy.

We are an equal opportunity employer. All hiring is contingent on eligibility to work in the United States. We are unable to sponsor or transfer visas for applicants.
