Project Finance / Energy Investment Analyst

About the role

BlueWave, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Axium Infrastructure, is seeking an ambitious, hard-working, financial analyst with strong underwriting acumen to join its Investments practice.  This position reports directly to BlueWave’s Managing Director-Investments, and is primarily responsible for building, operating and interpreting financial models in support of BlueWave’s development pipeline, capital markets activity and M&A function.

The Financial Analyst sits at the intersection of the disciplines which define the renewable energy industry: real estate, construction, engineering, power markets, government policy, complex capital structuring and transaction management.  Accordingly, candidates should be good communicators, curious and comfortable working across functional teams as a bridge to the firm’s investment decisions.

Candidates would ideally have energy-related investment experience, although it is not a requirement. Candidates could have a background in real estate acquisitions, venture capital / private equity underwriting or banking / project finance.

Prior full-time employment in an investment underwriting capacity and Boston-area residency are requirements.

Depending on professional experience and performance, this hire may be eligible for promotion to Associate pending completion of their first review cycle.

What you'll do
  • Build, maintain and operate project level financial models
  • Produce analyses from those financial models that inform site acquisition strategies, project development decision making, M&A transaction activity and investment thesis construction
  • Solicit and refine assumptions from colleagues across organization, eventually appreciating everything about their functions that impact investment underwriting
  • Support transactional due diligence
  • Synthesize and apply research in concert with third party data providers and internal sources
Qualifications
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with cash flow/investment modeling; Power BI, VBA, Power Apps and SQL experience a plus
  • 1-3 years of experience in energy-related investment, energy-related project finance, or similarly rigorous financial capacities
  • Boston-area residency
  • Highly developed work ethic and willingness to support the team outside of regular business hours as demands require
  • Demonstrated capability to articulate/understand complex financial problems and tenaciously pursue solutions
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with functional teams across the organization as well as external partners, brokers, vendors, and capital providers
