About the role:


BlueWave has an immediate opening for a Senior Engineer with strong Transmission experience who will be responsible for supporting PV and ESS projects through the RTO interconnection process. This role requires an electrical engineer with experience in managing generator applications through RTOs (ISO-NE/NYISO/PJM/MISO/CAISO), interconnection processes, and running and overseeing power flow analyses. This position will report to the Director of Grid Integration and will work closely with the Grid Integration Engineers through the lifecycle of the interconnection process for various RTO projects.


What you’ll do:

  • Lead transmission system analysis and interconnection studies to support utility-scale solar and storage projects
  • Evaluate transmission capacity, constraints, and interconnection feasibility across multiple ISOs/RTOs
  • Collaborate with utilities, ISOs, and regulatory agencies to navigate interconnection processes and ensure compliance with NERC, FERC, and local grid requirements
  • Support the design, modeling, and optimization of high-voltage transmission infrastructure for renewable energy projects
  • Analyze power flow, stability, and grid congestion to identify risks and mitigation strategies for project development
  • Assess transmission impacts on project feasibility and financial modeling
  • Provide technical expertise on grid interconnection requirements, transmission planning, and regulatory approvals
  • Support site acquisition with information on grid capacity
  • Develop single and three-line diagrams transmission-level Interconnection Applications
  • Run power flow analyses of utility scale projects for different scenarios of congestion constraints
  • Maintain knowledge tariffs and technical standards at the utility scale projects
  • Analyze Feasibility, System Impact and Facility Studies from the RTOs for cost reductions and time reduction of upgrades
  • Inform design and decisions for projects in queue
  • Negotiate system upgrade alternatives for cost, and timelines
  • Negotiate RTO level Interconnection Service Agreements
  • Perform site visits periodically over the course of the projects
  • Track technological advancements and drive adoption, as applicable
  • Support pre-construction team with interconnection requirements
  • Support construction team with equipment changes and RTO schedules


Qualifications:

  • 3-5+ years of relevant Interconnection, Transmission, ISO and RTO experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering; Master’s degree in electrical engineering or relevant power-related field preferred
  • Strong understanding of transmission systems and grid interconnection processes, including power flow analysis, stability studies, and congestion management
  • Experience working with ISOs/RTOs and utilities on interconnection applications, transmission planning, and regulatory compliance (NERC, FERC, PUCs)
  • Proficiency in transmission system modeling and analysis tools (e.g., PSSE, PSCAD, PowerWorld, or similar) to assess project feasibility and grid impact
  • Strong experience in ISO-NE and NYISO
  • Strong analytical capabilities
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills
