Position Summary 
WBK is seeking a motivated Civil Engineer with transportation project design experience who will work within the Transportation Practice Group. The position will support the design efforts of projects with IDOT, the Tollway, and various County and Municipal projects, but will also work with other practice groups as workload dictates.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for performing roadway or highway design tasks for projects with a variety of size and complexity under the supervision and guidance of senior transportation engineers
  • Technical assignments may include roadway and highway geometrics, drainage system design, traffic analysis and design, barrier warrant analyses, maintenance of traffic, municipal engineering, general civil/site development, and other related tasks
  • Designs will be performed primarily with the use of MicroStation and Geopak Open Roads 3-D modeling software
  • Prepare final transportation construction documents including Engineering Plans, Specifications and Estimates consistent with IDOT and/or Illinois Tollway standards.  
  • Perform quantity calculations from engineering construction documents.
  • Ability to assist with field condition assessment and construction observation on a limited basis.
  • Coordinate with structural engineers on bridge designs and other structural elements of transportation projects
  • Performs work that involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
Required Education and Degree: 
  • Bachelor's degree in a Civil Engineering or related engineering field
Preferred Experience and Certification:
  • One (1) to four (4) years of experience in a civil engineering field; preferably a transportation related engineering position
  • Engineer In Training (EIT) licensure in Illinois preferred
  • Familiarity with IDOT and/or Illinois Tollways engineering standards
Required Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams
  • Proficiency in MicroStation and Geopak Open Roads 3-D modeling software
Preferred Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in HCS, Synchro, and other traffic modeling software
Working Environment
When not working from a home office, remotely or onsite at a project location, most of this role is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment.
 
Additionally, this role may be required to attend site visits. During site visits, there will be exposure to a variety of environmental conditions such as being outdoor, being in indoor, non-temperature-controlled environments, and maneuvering in and around various terrains and construction environments.
 
Physical Demands
  • Sitting/Standing: This role is generally sedentary performing sitting work utilizing technological office equipment including a laptop, mouse, keyboard, computer monitors, telephones, scanners, copiers, and plotters. During site visits, this role requires the ability to traverse various project and construction sites that will have uneven surfaces.  
  • Walking: This role requires the ability to move about inside the office to access technological equipment required for the role. During site visits, this role requires the ability to traverse various project and construction sites that will have uneven surfaces which are frequently unpaved or steep making access difficult.   
  • Stooping/Kneeling/Crouching/Crawling: This role may require stooping to reload printer trays with print paper. During site visits, this role requires the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl to examine conditions and make recommendations to the clients for planning and improvements.
  • Using Hands/Fingers: This role constantly operates technological office equipment such as laptop, mouse, keyboard, computer monitors, telephones, scanners, copiers, and plotters.
  • Talking/Hearing: This role requires constant communication with others in the organization to exchange information, review information, and make decisions about information. 
  • Seeing: This role requires the ability to view text and line work on a computer screen, information in printed form, and existing project sites examining information to determine and make recommendations to the clients for planning and improvements.
  • Carrying/Lifting: This role requires the ability to lift up to 20lbs to transport technological office equipment to and from various workspaces.
